Every day, we breathe in the air around us. However, due to the presence of air pollutants, the very air we breathe can pose a danger to our health. In 2021 alone, air pollution was responsible for 8.1 million deaths, according to the latest State of Global Air report. On this International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies, Clean Air Asia is launching its new air quality explainer video to deepen the public’s understanding of air pollution and its harmful effects. As we rally behind the call to invest in #CleanAirNow, we believe that by fostering a broad awareness can we ensure that clean air receives the investment it so urgently needs. #WorldCleanAirDay Watch here:

🛣️ 🇮🇩 We’re excited to share progress on our Road Transport Decarbonisation Pathway (RTDP) tool, a key innovation in reducing transport emissions and air pollution in Indonesia. This initiative comes as we prepare to mark World Clean Air Day, underscoring the importance of clean air for a sustainable future. Developed with our partners Clean Air Asia and Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) under the UK PACT programme, the RTDP tool was recently tested in a workshop with over 50 key stakeholders. It empowers policymakers and urban planners to model decarbonisation pathways for the transport sector, taking into account emissions reductions and co-benefits like public health. “These efforts aim not only to achieve Indonesia’s climate targets but also help us develop economic and social co-benefits, ultimately improving the health of urban communities,” said Harriet Cooney, Deputy Head of Low Carbon Infrastructure, UK in Indonesia - UK in Indonesia - British Embassy Jakarta. Air pollution is a major environmental health risk that affected 99% of the global population and caused 8.1 million deaths in 2021. It is the second leading cause of death after high blood pressure. By 2060, air pollution is projected to cost the global economy $2.6 trillion annually due to rising healthcare costs, lost productivity, and premature deaths. Despite its severe impact and the clear benefits of addressing it, clean air initiatives are still vastly underfunded. On the International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies, Clean Air Asia stands with the global community and supports the call to invest in #CleanAirNow.
