In a recent announcement by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Pakistan has appointed Lt Gen Muhammad Asim Malik, HI (M), as the new Director General of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). He will officially take over the role on September 30, replacing Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum, who has served as DG ISI since 2021 under the appointment of former Prime Minister Imran Khan. Lt Gen Asim Malik is Rawalpindi's Adjutant General at the General Headquarters (GHQ) and boasts an illustrious military career. He has previously commanded an infantry division in Balochistan and an infantry brigade in Waziristan—both critical regions in Pakistan's defence operations. During his military training, Lt Gen Malik was recognized for his academic and leadership skills and was awarded the prestigious Sword of Honour. In addition to his field experience, Lt Gen Malik has held notable academic positions, including Chief Instructor at the National Defence University (NDU) and instructor at the Command and Staff College in Quetta. His educational credentials also include graduation from the United States Army's Fort Leavenworth and the Royal College of Defence Studies in the UK. As he steps into the leadership of Pakistan’s premier intelligence agency, Lt Gen Asim Malik brings a wealth of knowledge and experience at a pivotal time for the ISI, which plays a vital role in both national and international security.
