How do the different battery types affect vehicle capabilities? NMC, LFP and LTO are the designations for the types of lithium-ion batteries that identify the chemical elements used in them. We have won a prestigious order from the French market in recent days. Our company will deliver eight articulated hydrogen buses to the city of Belfort. The vehicles were purchased by the public entity Syndicat Mixte des Transports en Commun du Territoire de Belfort (SMTC), which brings together transport operators in the region. The ultimate operator of the new hydrogen buses will be the Régie des Transports du Territoire de Belfort (RTTB), which manages mobility, including bus transport, of Belfort. ‘We are extremely proud to collaborate with SMTC in Belfort and to supply the city with the high-tech, zero-emission hydrogen buses. The Urbino 18 hydrogen are not only an innovative means of transport but also a step towards a sustainable future. Thanks to the new Solaris buses, the residents of Belfort will be able to enjoy cleaner air and modern, reliable public transport,’ said Brice Bonavia, Managing Director of Solaris France. The 18-meter buses will be equipped with a state-of-the-art hydrogen system, which, combined with a modular drive, guarantees optimal driving performance. The Urbino 18 hydrogen will be delivered to the customer in the second half of 2025. This is the third order for hydrogen buses from the French market in recent months, following the contracts for four vehicles for Artois Mobilités and 22 buses for Île-de-France Mobilités. The use of hydrogen technology in public transport is gaining increasing popularity, and we are a clear leader in this field – in 2023, we held almost 50% of the market share in this segment. The first hydrogen buses project in the Central Bohemian region will be implemented with the participation of our company. Martin Uher Bus, a private transport company, has selected Solaris to supply the first hydrogen buses for its fleet. We will supply ten Solaris Urbino 12 hydrogen buses, equipped with state-of-the-art fuel cells with a total power of 70 kW. The buses will be refueled with hydrogen produced from 100% green electricity, sourced from the Vrané nad Vltavou hydroelectric power plant. This method generates no carbon dioxide emissions, making the hydrogen produced green and completely climate-neutral. Buses will operate in the hilly areas around Mníšek pod Brdy in the Central Bohemian region. "I am extremely proud that Martin Uher Bus has chosen our company as a partner in the transition to zero-emission transport using 10 modern Solaris Urbino hydrogen buses. We are honored to be part of this significant hydrogen project in the Czech Republic. Behind us is another year of comprehensive improvement and alignment of the Solaris Group’s sustainable production. During the last 5 years, we reduced our carbon footprint emissions related to manufacturing processes and energy consumed by as much as 64%. In line with the proximity principle, we are conscious to give preference to domestic suppliers, thereby contributing to the maintenance of jobs in Poland and a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in transport. In 2023, nearly 70% of our suppliers were domestic suppliers. Moreover, Solaris is fully aware of the problem of depletion of natural resources, and is therefore defining activities to use recycled materials and enable recycling of products, as well as to ensure reuse of both raw materials and products. The content of recycled steel in the stainless steel used to manufacture the frames of our buses was 89.8% according to ISO 14021. In July 2023, we have also began the investment project, the new Hydrogen Hall. This project allowed us to centralize production stations and work related to specific types of propulsion - hydrogen and CNG - in a single, specially adapted hall. Sustainable product is an essential part of our development, which we covered comprehensively in the Solaris 2023 Sustainability Report. The focal point of the Report is our constructive impact on the transition of Europe’s public transport. Zero- and low-emission buses accounted for as much as 82% of all vehicles marketed last year. In 2023, we once again took the number one position in Europe’s zero-emission city bus market. Moreover, we achieved the best performance in hydrogen technology: almost every second hydrogen-powered city bus in Europe was sold by our company, demonstrating our leadership in transitioning urban mobility towards carbon neutrality. We remain committed to innovation, including by continuously designing new battery solutions. In 2023, a dedicated battery competence centre was established within the company’s structures, called the Solaris Battery HUB. The centre was established to ensure comprehensive management of battery-related work and pursue the implementation of a closed-loop economy approach in respect of lithium-ion batteries. We are pleased to present the details of our sustainability efforts included in the Solaris 2023 Sustainability Report.   Recently published Solaris Sustainability Report for 2023 outlines our ongoing commitment to the advancement of responsible governance. The Report depicts the processes preparing our company to attain the ambitious goal of carbon neutrality by 2045. Among many other activities it is worth highlighting that we were granted an Ecovadis Platinium rating in ESG.
