In order to reach this goal, we gradually present you our 30 selected Project Cooperation Proposals #Value4Pack30 😉 The following innovative project introduces transparent, mono-material packaging to enhance product visibility in fiber based packaging without plastic. This solution is designed to replace multi-material packs with plastic windows, offering a recyclable, biodegradable alternative that meets stringent food safety standards. Main Features: - Approved for direct food contact, resistant to oils and fats, and provides an oxygen barrier, while also being compostable. - Aligned with the EU’s sustainability goals, the packaging reduces plastic usage and supports the transition to single-material solutions. - The heat-seal adhesive is Single Use Plastic Directive (SUPD) compliant, ideal for flexible applications in high-temperature environments up to 200°C. Current trials show promising results at TRL 6, with plans for rigorous testing across food packaging scenarios. By using lignocellulose-based biomasses, this solution introduces high-performance biopolyesters with superior gas barriers and UV protection, setting new standards in food safety and shelf life extension. With applications spanning the forest, agricultural, biorefinery, and packaging sectors, this bio-based polyester supports a circular economy through its use of renewable, often discarded materials such as sawdust and straw. Additionally, these polyesters can be recycled under mild conditions, aligning directly with EU sustainability targets and the 4R principles. 🌍 This is one of the few initiatives in the world developing furfural-based monomers into biopolyesters, promising a shift away from fossil-based plastics like PET. In order to reach this goal, we gradually present you our 30 selected Project Cooperation Proposals #Value4Pack30 😉 The SIXPACK project is setting new standards in sustainable packaging through a VLAIO-funded Living Lab in Belgium. Designed specifically for the beverage industry, SIXPACK introduces Retourpacks—returnable, reusable primary and secondary packaging made from reground, post-consumer materials. This innovative packaging is intended to replace single-use bottles and carriers on retail shelves, significantly reducing waste and carbon emissions in alignment with the EU’s Circular Economy Action Plan. By standardizing packaging sizes and offering packaging-as-a-service, the project targets a lasting reduction in single-use plastics, meeting EU regulatory demands, and helping consumers embrace more sustainable choices. In collaboration with Carrefour, Swinkels Family Brewers Italia, and the Reuse Labs of the Universiteit Antwerpen, SIXPACK aims to extend its reach across Europe, providing a scalable, closed-loop packaging system.
