Sobre nós
Smartex is a leading and award-winning hardware-based software company dedicated to developing advanced solutions and building essential tools for the modern textile factory. With a focus on AI-driven technology, Smartex empowers textile manufacturers to optimize operations, enhance quality control, boost sustainability, and streamline supply chain processes. We are revolutionizing the textile industry with our comprehensive suite of tools, including Smartex CORE and Smartex LOOP. These tools enable manufacturers to unlock their full potential and thrive in an increasingly competitive landscape. Smartex CORE, the foundation of the Smartex System, detects all relevant types of defects produced by Circular Knitting Machines (open-width and tubular) using artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms & integrates into existing textile machinery with a seamless set of cameras and sensors. The system pairs with a comprehensive software platform for factory management, article management, digital twins of textile rolls produced, and more. Building upon the success of Smartex CORE, our AI-enabled automated quality control product, Smartex LOOP enables suppliers to take advantage of fabric-roll level data collection and revolutionize supply chain communication, as well as directly address the call from fashion brands for better supply chain data, marking a new era of transparency and collaboration. Smartex is dedicated to digitizing the textile industry by providing technical tools which will allow it to become more efficient, productive, and sustainable.

🔎 Can you spot defects in black fabric? 🎯 🖤 Black fabric detection is notoriously challenging, but not for Smartex CORE! Our cutting-edge system identifies lycra dashes, yarn contamination, broken needles, drop stitches, tiny holes, and even oil lines in real-time. With machine learning, Smartex CORE continuously improves, detecting new defects and enhancing accuracy over time. 🤖 In these images, our Smartex CORE successfully stopped continuous horizontal defects and detected tiny holes that would have gone unnoticed. We help factories achieve a more sustainable production process by ensuring premium quality and reducing waste. ♻️ 💜 #TextileInnovation #AIinTextiles #Sustainability #QualityControl #ML #SmartexCORE #SmartexAI #TheFutureOfFashion #TextileDefects Gilberto Loureiro António Rocha Paulo Ribeiro Rui Pereira Alon Lavi Miguel Ribeiro Camila Panizzi Luz Márcio Quintela Miguel Gomes Rita Santos Ricardo Ferreira Ricardo Couto

The Role of AI in Textiles: Toolset, Not Intelligence Despite the marketing spin, artificial intelligence (AI) isn't truly "intelligent." Systems like ChatGPT are large language models (LLMs) designed to process language and generate sophisticated responses. These models can interpret various forms of input, including spoken language or pixel-based data in multimodal applications. However, calling these models "smart" is akin to branding devices with a lowercase "i" and implying they are conscious. For those who have explored AI programs, it’s clear that these are powerful tools, but they do not think. Yet, these tools enable users without specialized education to achieve tasks like coding, generating visuals, or creating sophisticated systems like web pages and pattern recognition. In textiles, where hands-on experience often outweighs formal education on the factory floor, LLMs can democratize knowledge, enabling faster decision-making and innovation. Integrating LLMs across processes, where different AI systems “speak” to each other, holds immense potential. However, LLMs have their limitations. They operate on a probabilistic understanding of language and, without proper guidance, can produce incoherent outputs. The challenge is akin to "Chinese whispers" (as described in [this Nature article](https://lnkd.in/g7bp-JzR)), where meaning is lost as models process information. Maintaining clarity and precision in AI outputs is crucial. Still, the biggest hurdle for AI in textiles is the physical manipulation of materials. Just as we selectively breed fruits and vegetables for optimal flavor, textile production demands similar precision in material adjustments. AI cannot replace this hands-on craftsmanship, but it can significantly reduce the wastage of sampling—cutting down the typical 18-month development cycle to something more aligned with real-time human focus. This optimization can have an exponential impact on reducing carbon footprints. AI also holds potential in automating tedious tasks, such as quality control and defect detection (through solutions like Smartex.ai ), streamlining manufacturing processes. AI in textiles is promising, but we must be cautious not to overpromise, as was the case with Industry 4.0 a decade ago. Let’s focus on what LLMs can realistically achieve today and use them to solve genuine industry challenges, not just generate hype. And to those of you worried, you can relax—we’re far from Skynet! #ArtificialIntelligence #LLM #TextileIndustry #AIinManufacturing #SustainableInnovation #Industry40 #SmartTextiles #AIandTextiles #QualityControl #SustainableFashion #TextileTechnology #InnovationLeadership
