#foodlaw #cultivatedmeat #protein #carne #carnecultivada #novelfood #novosalimentos #saude #lifesciences #zeigler #zeigleradvogados

Cultivated meat 🍗 🥩 🍤 makes the headlines in the EU once again following yesterday meeting of the EU AGRIFISH Council. This time is because a coalition of 13 countries - led by Austria, France and Italy - is questioning its safety, sustainability as well as its economic impact on conventional agriculture. Doubts are raised also about the suitability of the current novel food legal framework to assess the potential risks that this innovation may involve. While for the time being this a political initiative, some EU countries have already taken steps to regulate it unilaterally. Given the current political scenario, I guess it's not too visionary to think about what could happen if this coalition of countries was to vote against the authorisation of a novel food application on cultivated meat. So let's make a simulation of the voting results according to Council rules and see where your own country stands! 👇 👇 👇 #cultivatedmeat #culturedmeat #novelfood #foodsafety #foodinnovation #foodlaw #regulatedproducts #marketingauthorisations #qualifiedmajority

Interesting. So what are the reasons for objections to cultured meats? is it possible that countries are reacting in fear of the unknown, or that they are protectioninst for current industries, or that they simply fear change. How do minds get changed? Do they change by not allowing anything new? do they change with education and knowledge? I'm speculating now but suspect that the first caveman who cooked animals was ostracized because what was being done had never been done before. Now we all cook our meats. Change is good
