Last week our #WASHTalk guest Nathanael Hollands described how Kinvest Impact Foundation uses solar power stations in Rwanda as a catalyst for economic development and sustainability in rural communities. These solar power stations are built in central market areas and create a hub for entrepreneurs by providing a central location with access to electricity and clean water ⚡💧. Kinvest Impact also facilitates a business leader development program, which fosters personal finance management skills and uncovers catalytic leaders within the community who contribute to lasting change. This approach not only provides individuals with the skills and tools for economic growth within their own communities, but also supports the spread of this initiative to other communities. This week, members of our team attended the GIZ Rwanda and Ministry of Infrastructure E-Mobility Forum in Kigali, #Rwanda. We gained valuable insights into Rwanda’s progress and ambitions for e-mobility and #sustainabletransportation. It was inspiring to see Rwanda’s commitment to #greengrowth and learn about the innovative solutions driving sustainability. Key discussions centered on the importance of reducing carbon emissions, expanding charging infrastructure, and fostering partnerships to accelerate #emobility. The event offered insights into how e-mobility can transform lives, reduce environmental impact, and create economic opportunities. "Rwanda is committed to transforming our mobility sector to be sustainable, accessible, and eco-friendly," stated Rwanda’s Director General in charge of transportation at MINIFRA. At Kinvest Impact, we engage with e-mobility innovation through our electric commercial transportation service, #Tujyane. Where Dreams Turn into Reality: Get to Know the Nyagashanga Community  In 2020, we established a market hub in Nyagashanga, a community in Eastern Rwanda, equipped with solar power, clean water, and dedicated spaces for local entrepreneurs to grow their businesses. Today, this hub supports nearly 1,300 households, fostering economic growth and enhancing the livelihoods of community members. Our work in Nyagashanga began through close collaboration with local leaders, allowing us to tailor our approach to the unique needs of the community. In Nyagashanga, hope is rising as villagers look ahead to a future where businesses thrive, children receive quality education, and families experience financial stability. With our Business Leader Development and Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) programs, the community has been turning their dreams into a reality. To date, 75 community members have graduated from our programs, receiving practical training in business management, savings, and decision-making. Hope, the hub operator at the Nyagashanga Market Hub, shared her excitement on community growth: “By working together with the right tools, we can uplift each other and create a brighter future for our children.” By focusing on local entrepreneurship, infrastructure, and cooperation, leaders of the Nyagashanga community are paving the way for a brighter, more prosperous future. "When Kinvest brought electricity to Gatebe, it was like a dream come true. That moment marked the beginning of a new chapter for me and my family." Jackson Dusabimana, a village leader and tenant at our Gatebe Market Hub, once faced the harsh reality of unemployment. Before Kinvest, Gatebe lacked electricity, making it nearly impossible for residents to run successful businesses.  Jackson recalls the moment he heard about Kinvest and the opportunities it offered in. He knew it was his chance to start a business and change his life. The affordable rent at the market hub made it possible for Jackson to open a salon.  Today, Jackson’s business is thriving. He has hired two workers to assist in the salon and can now provide for his family. With his business earnings, he covers school fees for his three children, pays for family insurance, and started a poultry farm. As a village leader, Jackson expresses deep gratitude for the transformation Kinvest has brought to Gatebe. Before, people sold crops on the ground, vulnerable to the elements. Now, they have a covered market with electricity and access to clean water a safe and dignified space for everyone. Looking ahead, Jackson plans to attend the Leader Development Program, inspired by the transformation he has witnessed in others. He is also an active member of two savings groups and aims to expand his business further using these savings. Jackson’s story is a powerful testament to the life-changing impact of Kinvest’s initiatives. But there is more work to be done. Kinvest market hubs serve as vibrant centers of economic activity, offering renewable energy and commercial spaces that help local entrepreneurs incubate ideas and accelerate business growth. The Gatebe Market Hub, in Eastern Rwanda, plays a crucial role in the community, providing a high-value marketplace for nearly 40 sellers and serving 1,436 households.  The Gatebe Market Hub offers a bustling environment for small business owners who once faced long, unsafe journeys to distant markets. “I no longer worry about the dangers of traveling far,” says Dativa, one of the sellers at the covered market. “The Gatebe Market has changed my life by allowing me to sell right in my community.” Sellers benefit from a diverse customer base, enhancing sales and building community trust. “It’s great to see familiar faces and know that we are supporting each other,” shares Visent, another tenant. “Here, we are more than just businesspeople; we are neighbors and friends.” Visent highlights how the market has strengthened community bonds while boosting sales. Regular customers create a sense of trust and mutual support among sellers and locals.
