𝗔𝗯𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻! ✨ On Wednesday we had an incredible launch event to celebrate our new office in Milan. This is a key milestone for Abion, as Milan’s central role in the Italian IP industry makes it a strategic location for us. 🚂 The Bobino Milano in the Porta Genova train station was transformed in Abion green, with sparkles adding to the celebration—making it the perfect venue for our train to pick up even more speed. With our second office in Italy, alongside our well-established presence in Rome, we’re excited to strengthen our services and offer even more comprehensive IP counsel and brand protection to our clients. 💚 Thank you to everyone who joined us, it was wonderful to see you and share this special night together! Calling all E-commerce friends! 💸 Here’s a reminder that your busiest time of the year is fast approaching—and so is the peak season for cybercriminals. 🛒 𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗡𝗡 𝗘𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗔𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗴𝗧𝗟𝗗𝘀 ICANN has announced a major update for the next round of gTLD applications: private auctions will no longer be allowed. This change aims to reduce speculative applications and create a more transparent process for acquiring gTLDs. Companies can now submit alternate strings if there’s a conflict, and auctions will still follow the second-price model. 👩💻 Abion’s Compliance Manager, Jeanett Tesfaledet, comments on the news: “ICANN’s decision to end private auctions is a positive change since it addresses concerns about fairness, reduces the risk of speculative applications, and promotes a more transparent gTLD process. While discussions around this decision continue, we, as a registrar and an active part of the ICANN community, support these updates and are committed to guiding our clients through the evolving gTLD landscape.” Find out why this change matters 👇

𝗜𝘁𝗮𝗹𝘆 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗲 🧀 The Italian Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy has recently adopted a decree aimed at safeguarding trademarks of national interest, particularly those associated with companies that are shutting down. This decree is designed to preserve the valuable heritage of Made in Italy trademarks, whether they are registered or have been in use for at least 50 years. 🛵 In line with Law 206/2023, which we also commented on earlier this year, this action ensures these important trademarks do not disappear or are sold to investors who might exploit the prestigious "Made in Italy" name. By doing so, the decree helps protect and maintain the integrity of these brands, keeping them within Italy and upholding their legacy. 𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼: 𝟭. Take ownership of these valuable trademarks at no cost, preventing them from disappearing from the market. 𝟮. Register these trademarks under their own name if they have been cancelled for not being used for at least five years, and then offer them to national and international investors through free 10-year licensing agreements. 🙋♀️ Federica Forchino, 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝗔𝗯𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀: "This strategic move not only protects Italy's rich trademark heritage but also creates new avenues for businesses and investors to engage with and contribute to the ongoing legacy of the Made in Italy brand." IP Fuelling Innovation in the Beauty Industry 💄 What did we learn from our recent experience at the stunning Milan Beauty Week 2024? First, innovation is at the heart of the beauty industry, and second, protecting those innovations through Intellectual Property (IP) is crucial for driving company growth and maintaining a competitive edge. With an overwhelming number of new products entering the market on a daily basis, businesses must leverage IP to secure their unique formulas, brands, and packaging. 💡Here’s how IP plays a vital role in the very diverse world of beauty: 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Patents protect ground-breaking cosmetic technologies, from innovative ingredients to new application methods. For companies heavily invested in R&D, patent protection is key to securing a return on investment and gaining market competitiveness. 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: As consumer demand for sustainable beauty products grows, companies are investing in eco-friendly innovations. Protecting these advancements, such as organic formulations and sustainable packaging, is crucial for fostering continued research and growth in green beauty, reinforcing companies and consumers’ commitment to environmental responsibility. 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘆: Trademarks safeguards brand names, logos, and designs, preventing counterfeiting and ensuring brand recognition. 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Secures unique packaging designs, preventing imitation and preserving a product’s visual appeal. 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝗿𝗲𝘁𝘀: Protects confidential formulas and production methods, crucial for staying ahead when patents aren't an option. 𝗖𝗼𝗽𝘆𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹: Guards creative content such as images, promotional videos, and texts used in advertising campaigns, preserving brand image in the digital age and preventing plagiarism or unauthorised use. 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗯𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗲𝗶𝘁𝘀: The rise of counterfeit products poses a significant threat to the beauty sector. Effective IP strategies help brands take legal action against infringement and protect consumers from unsafe, unregulated products. 🇮🇹 Abion's newly opened office in Milan, led by the highly experienced Country Manager Silvia Asioli and Legal Director Eleonora Ortaglio, is strategically positioned to support beauty brands and innovators understand the dynamic IP landscape and help protect the unique technologies and innovations that are shaping the future of the beauty industry.
