At Autoliv, we manufacture over 150 million seatbelts annually, and testing their retractors was once a manual challenge. With our AI-powered seatbelt retractor audio analysis, known as "The Sound of Safety," we've updated this process. Originating in our Tijuana facility, this global solution listens for sound patterns, automatically identifying noisy components. This innovation not only enhances efficiency but helps us maintain our commitment to high-quality safety solutions.

This past week, we celebrated a remarkable milestone – the 40th anniversary of the Autoliv Research Advisory Board. Since 1984, this group of expert advisors has provided essential insights that shape our research and safety solutions. From biomechanics to autonomous driving, their expertise keeps Autoliv at the forefront of mobility safety. "The meeting with the Autoliv Research Advisory Board is the research highlight of the year. We meet once a year to present and discuss the latest research results, new initiatives, and the reasons behind them. The advisors validate the direction and quality of Autoliv's research," says Cecilia Sunnevång, PhD, Vice President of Research at Autoliv. The photos show a glimpse into our history, with the board from the mid-1990s alongside today's team – representing 40 years of collaboration and a shared commitment to saving more lives.

Instilling good safety habits early is essential for the next generation of responsible road users. Recently, our Japan team hosted a safety awareness event at Tsukuba RC Park, engaging over 80 elementary school children and their families in learning vital road safety behaviors. Through interactive activities with radio-controlled cars, participants explored traffic rules, airbag safety, and the critical role of seatbelts. This initiative is part of our broader strategy to support the UN's Sustainable Development Goal 3.6, which aims to halve global road traffic fatalities and injuries by 2030. By fostering a culture of safety awareness from a young age, we are not only contributing to saving more lives but also striving towards our ambition to save 100,000 lives annually.

We are proud and pleased after the IRCOBI conference in Stockholm last week, where Autoliv served as a gold sponsor, participated in the exhibition, and delivered several presentations. Our contributions demonstrate our commitment to advanced safety solutions.   We offer some special highlights:   Martin Östling was awarded the Gundolf Beier Foundation Award for his publication and presentation on crash characteristics and injury patterns in low-severity, high-exposure frontal crashes involving belted occupants. This recognition highlights the importance of injury prevention at lower crash severities, especially as Euro NCAP plans to introduce a low-severity crash test in 2026.   Another highlight of the conference was the Bertil Aldman Memorial Lecture, delivered by Ola Bostrom, former VP of Research at Autoliv, recognizing his long-standing contributions to automotive safety.   We are also proud to announce that Nils Lübbe has been elected Treasurer of IRCOBI.   We are grateful for the opportunity to lead and contribute to crucial research that shapes the future of safe mobility. We look forward to continuing this journey with our peers from industry and academia.

As part of our commitment to climate action, we've successfully phased out the use of sulfur hexafluoride (SF6), a greenhouse gas, in our steering wheel production. In 2023, SF6 accounted for 6% of emissions in our operations, making this a significant step forward in our decarbonization efforts and a key milestone towards achieving carbon neutrality in our operations by 2030.
