The International EPD System reaches the milestone of hosting over 10,000 valid EPDs 🥂 Many Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) have been published since the first published EPD in 1998, and we now host more than 10,000 valid EPDs in the International EPD System. Breaking it down to geographical data, the top five countries that have a great share of the 10,000+ EPDs are Italy, Sweden, Spain, Türkiye, and the United Kingdom. The category of construction products holds a main share of the overall EPDs, taking up approximately 80% of the EPDs, whereas the top three categories of the non-construction products are food and beverages (18%), paper and plastic (13%), and metal, mineral, plastic, and glass (13%). Since the first EPD published in the International EPD System, the growth of EPDs, supported by regulation and market demand, has been exponential particularly in recent years. At the end of the summer, the number of registered EPD in the International EPD System reached a milestone at 10,000, all thanks to the trust of our valued clients and dedication from all our stakeholders. With the help of Pyreg GmbH machinery, our newly announced Wiltshire production facility will be able to produce up to 9,000 tonnes of biochar a year, capturing and storing 17,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide.   Here’s a look at PYREG’s PX1500, one of the machines that will help us achieve our ambitious target to be the UK’s largest biochar operation.

News | Global Programme Instructions 5.0.0 is released 🧾 EPD International is proud to announce the release of the General Programme Instructions (GPI) 5.0.0, a major update designed to enhance harmonisation, clarity, and transparency in Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) procedures. Since the previous release of GPI 4.0 in March 2021, significant advancements have been made to refine and improve the rules of the International EPD System. GPI 5.0.0 offers clearer and more stringent procedures for rule changes, document version management, and data quality transparency. These updates aim to streamline the process and ensure consistency and credibility of EPDs. This release would not have been possible without the invaluable input from our stakeholders. Over 800 comments were received during the public consultation and licensee and technical committee review sessions, providing critical insights that have shaped the new GPI.
