Scania is a partner of CoGig | Female Leader Engineer (FLE), a programme that connects women and non-binary engineering students with Sweden’s largest companies, promoting more women in business leadership. Last week, we had the honour of welcoming participants from the programme to Scania. It was a day filled with inspiration and learning! We kicked off the day with breakfast and mingle at our R&D department. Here, they had the opportunity to meet our CTO, Sara Forsberg, along with several other amazing leaders from our organisation who shared their experiences and insights. Throughout the day, participants attended a panel discussion about leadership and learned about Ventures & New Business and our Digital Premium Experience. It was fantastic to see their engagement and curiosity. To top it all off, the brave participants got to ride our roller coaster; the test track where we try our trucks and buses. It was an exciting experience that put the cherry on top of a memorable day! We concluded the day at Production, where we were warmly welcomed by our workshop manager Tony and his awesome team. Thank you to everyone who participated and made the day so special! We look forward to more inspiring meetings in the future. 💙

Studies show that truck drivers spend a sizable amount of time outside their vehicles, loading and unloading goods. Scania, in collaboration with partners, is therefore exploring the potential for using robots to unload goods at the point of delivery. This Scania-led project is one of several within the HITS research initiative – Sustainable and Integrated Urban Transport System – to develop efficient transport solutions for cleaner and safer cities. It includes real estate owners, municipalities, engineering and logistics companies, and research institutions. Sweden’s Dyno Robotics is developing the prototype Carrie robot to demonstrate how a goods cage automatically can be offloaded from trucks at loading bays and subsequently travel through a maze of interior corridors as well as using lifts for destination delivery. The cage is equipped with a RFID tag so that the robot identifies the correct cage and recipient. The selected demonstration site is Stockholm’s Westfield Mall of Scandinavia, one of the very largest shopping centres in the Nordic countries with more than 200 shops and restaurants. Arriving at the loading bay with Havi’s Scania electric distribution truck, Carrie steers off the cargo box onto the dock. Having been previously programmed, it embarks on its journey through a set of turns and twists on its way to the goods entrance of a clothing shop. Travelling autonomously at one half-metre per second, the robot adeptly manoeuvres through interior corridors but it also needs to go up several floors. HITS (Sustainable and Integrated Urban Transport System) is a cooperative initiative across a number of different industries that aims to develop efficient transport solutions and create cleaner and safer cities. The project participants include property owners, city authorities, municipalities, engineering and logistics companies and research institutions. The project is led by Scania, coordinated by CLOSER and financed by VINNOVA.

”Every problem has a solution, me and my team just need to find the right one for each obstacle we encounter,” says Meera Aravind, Product Owner for simulation tests for autonomous trucks at Scania, Södertälje. When she started at Scania software wasn’t as much of a priority as it is today. “Back then, Scania was more of a traditional truck company – but now software development is really the core of everything we do”, Meera continuous. I’ve been at Scania for seven years now and I can’t think of myself working somewhere else right now. I feel at home here! Since day one I’ve felt that I have the chance to progress in my career and have full support of my managers and my team. R&D is all about creating what the customers need and want – in the future. But making sure we do it the right way: prioritizing both the technical side of it as well as finding the right balance of the product before commercializing it. Being a new area of expertise Scania needs to define what qualifies as a successful autonomous vehicle before launching it to the market – safety of course being a top priority. “There is no blue print to follow in this area, we need to define and execute what will be a top level product. I can’t imagine a more challenging and rewarding assignment. That’s why I truly love my work!” Meera finishes with a smile.

At Scania, we transform how we work, to ensure our workplace is future-proof, sustainable, and dynamic. Through our Future of Work programme, we reshape our workspaces and embrace hybrid work models, combining our Södertälje campus, home offices, and other spaces. "We must be intentional about how, when, and where we meet and interact in our teams and networks. Sharing spaces across the company creates a sustainable, vibrant workplace while increasing cross-functional networking and collaboration," explains Mikael Billström Strategy Lead at People Experience. Our corporate co-working spaces, such as The Lake House at our head office in Södertälje, and Scania Sergel in Stockholm, offer inspiring environments for creativity and cross-functional collaboration. "We need to adapt to the needs of individuals, teams, and work streams," says Göthlin Åsa Head of People Experience. We are also learning to use physical spaces more effectively and viewing our campus as a toolbox, where different spaces serve specific purposes in our daily work. "Now, more than ever, the workforce and future talent expect flexibility. Scania needs to be the number one choice as a hybrid employer – for the people we have today and those we will need tomorrow," Göthlin concludes.

Today, on 10 October, we at Scania celebrate both World Mental Health Day and World Inclusion Day! These important topics go hand in hand, as inclusion and supporting mental health are key to building a strong, safe, and supportive workplace for everyone. The safety and health of all Scania employees are a top priority and a strategic necessity. So today, we take the opportunity to learn even more, by offering digital training on various topics to our employees, hosted by our psychologists from the Occupational Health organisation. We want all employees to feel appreciated for who they are and to know that each experience, skill and background is an advantage on our journey to meet the demands of the transport industry. Let’s grow and support each other today just like every day. #SkillCapture #Diversity #Inclusion #MentalHealthDay #WorldInclusionDay

Scania has a partnership with Australian mining services provider, Regroup, to launch our first fleet of autonomous in-pit mining trucks in commercial operations! These autonomous G 560 8x4 tippers will transport manganese ore at Element 25’s Butcherbird Mine in Western Australia by late 2025, marking a milestone for our companies and the global mining industry. This fleet of 11 trucks is the result of years of collaboration between Scania Australia and local mining partners. The goal? To improve mining efficiency, reduce fuel consumption, and cut down on emissions—all while operating in one of the world’s toughest environments. But this is just the beginning! Alongside our autonomous fleet, Regroup has invested in a Scania battery-electric truck for the site, reinforcing its commitment to a sustainable future. As technology advances, we’ll add even more electric vehicles to this mix, transforming mining operations for the better. “By switching from larger trucks to smaller, more efficient autonomous ones, we’re lowering emissions and fuel usage without sacrificing performance,” says Regroup MD, Michael Still. And that’s a win-win for both the business and the planet. Together, Scania and Regroup are driving a future of innovation and sustainability in mining, paving the way to a smarter industry!

“I’m optimistic about the future. With what I encounter in my line of work I can truly say we are on the path toward something good. And I’m happy to be a part of it.” Sofia Edberg is Venture Lead, a hands-on role shaping the future of the transport industry by building new businesses that complement Scania’s current range of products and services. “Venture building is not just about finding the most exciting initiatives out there; we need to find the right match for us.” Scania is looking for business ideas that expand our playing field while driving the shift towards a sustainable transport system, keeping the customer top of mind. “We always strive to challenge the status quo of the industry.” Sofia says the proudest moment in her Scania career so far happened when she was a group manager within R&D. The team struggled with results and their sense of well-being but turned it around. “We spent a lot of time getting to know each other. Every second we put into team-building and work processes was well spent. This team turned into a well-oiled machine!” Sofia has learned a lot since she first started at Scania. “Not just about trucks and our industrial system. The greatest lessons have been about people, the importance of good leadership and perhaps most importantly the power of committing to making a difference.”
