Between March 2023 and February 2024, 8.6 billion ton GHG were emited due to wildfires. As we emit around 60 billion ton per year it is more than 14% from the overall amount. Aproximately 1/7. Climate change make this disaster by increasing heatwaves, droughts, in some extent lightnings. Meaning if now we will completely shut down all fossil fuels, the emissions from wildfires alone will be much more than the emissions of the USA (which are 11% from the overall). More emissions=more warming=more wildfires. It is difficult but still possible to breack this cycle now. We can increase 10-fold the amount of firefighters, but it will require a lot of money and currently countries are too busy with wars so the resources go to other places. We can create climate friendly, nature positive economy, but this will require a system change. The wildfires were especially big in Canada not in some poor countries, so if somebody think, one will make the problem and another face the consequences, he is wrong. https://lnkd.in/dfPFVfH4 Make our voice sound! • Flooding is continue across Russia. In the cities of Orsk and Orenburg 10,000 houses are flooded, people are evacuated. The water level in the river of Ural rose by more than 9 meters. In the Far East, 20 towns remain isolated, evacuation begun. The reason are too strong rains and as you know climate change is good in creating such things. It is difficult to to effectively deal with the floodings while the country is too busy with war. In the Russian media is circulating a story about a soldier that was temporarily released from the war in Ukrain for help his family to rebuild house destroyed by flooding. However, 1 soldier is not enough. Russia, will not be able to effectively cut emissions, all time it need to finance its war machine. Of course, it apply to all other countries. What is happening in Russia did not stay there: reffugees, economic impact will reach other countries. Demand cooperation instead of war and an economy for people and planet not for GDP by signing and spreading this appeal! https://lnkd.in/dWFrYpGe Demand it when you strike! Some of the good news of the week for raise the moral: the results of our work! * In the USA, Biden gives 85 billion dollars to make more heat pumps. Heat pump can cool (especially important in a world of heatwaves) and heat. They emmit much less than air conditionairs, which are currently emmiting huge amount of GHG. https://lnkd.in/eQmaFrm3 * He also gives 20 million dollars to disadvantaged communities in Texas (Houston Health Department, Black United Fund of Texas ) for plant 10,000 trees, stop illegal dumping, for immediate help in case of extreme eather events. https://lnkd.in/dzUpiRZQ * He also ban single use plastic from governmental agencies and even from military bases https://lnkd.in/dnj7a9YY * Despite problems like a strike of the workers in environmental agencies in Brazil, in the Amazon rainforest, deforestation in the last 12 month was the lowest from 2016: https://lnkd.in/dASrb9T4 * In Canada, in British Columbia, active transportation (walking, biking, skateboarding) will probably became safer and more convenient: https://lnkd.in/diAsFMYT * China announce 70 new standarts for carbon emissions reduction: https://lnkd.in/depGUyrU * The World Economic Forum propose nature based solutions to India even though if a nearby forest cool the city, the air conditioning companies lose GDP. Meaning prefer to change the system rather to wait untill it collapse. https://lnkd.in/ekEsuBiK Have a nice Weekend!

  • We have a message from Sohanur Rahman one of the foundators of Fridays For Future Bangladesh: Dear Friends, Colleagues and Supporters, I am writing to share a significant and historic development in Bangladesh. On Monday, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled the country amidst escalating violence, marking the end of her 15-year rule. Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman announced this monumental shift in a televised address to the nation, where he also stated that an interim government would be formed with civil society leaders to lead the country forward. According to media reports, Hasina, 76, was flown out of the country in a military helicopter with her sister and is currently headed to India. Initial reports indicate that she has landed in Agartala, the capital of India's northeastern state of Tripura, and is en route to New Delhi. In Dhaka, thousands of people have taken to the streets in jubilation, chanting slogans of victory and unity. The visuals of citizens storming Hasina's official residence, 'Ganabhaban', and celebrating this momentous occasion reflect the collective hope for a just and equitable future. We owe this triumph to the brave students and young people of Bangladesh, whose unwavering courage and determination have demonstrated the immense power of youth and unity. This is a moment to celebrate not just for Bangladesh but for all who believe in democracy, justice, and human rights. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all our global supporters for your unwavering solidarity during these challenging times. Your support has been instrumental in amplifying our voices and bringing international attention to our cause. Together, we have shown that change is possible when we stand united. Thank you for standing with us. We are committed to working towards a just society and an equitable future for all as we move forward. Best Regards. Sohan Sohanur Rahman Executive Coordinator |"

From Fridays for Future India: "Although the statistics about climate calamities are crucial pieces of information, they can overshadow the human story. Each statistic represents a family, a home, a life turned upside down. Floods bring immediate shock and long-term emotional turmoil, including anxiety, depression, and PTSD. As Godavari levels rise in Telangana, threatening 110 villages with some already submerged due to the breach of the Peddavagu project. Climate change, deforestation, and major dams like Sriram Sagar and Polavaram disrupting natural flows have intensified the crisis. The impact is so much more than the numbers on the screen. While addressing the physical devastation is essential, tending to the mental health needs is equally crucial. By understanding and acknowledging the psychological toll, we can provide the necessary support and resources to help communities heal and rebuild. Credits: @atreyi_b @_transdiaries_" https://lnkd.in/ds_iadRu Rich countries need to support the low income considering that their money is partly taken from activities that caused the floods and if they will share resources low income countries will not need to increase consumption increasing the ecological footprint of humanity. Except, there will be less immigration from low income countries to rich countries what will cause relief to both.
