🍏💊 It may sound like a playful twist on “an apple a day keeps the doctor away,” but in parts of the U.S., it’s already a reality. Physicians are prescribing fruits and vegetables to help improve long-term health, and the results are promising – especially in combating diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity. Now, imagine if more countries adopted a similar approach, where fruits and vegetables became an integral part of the healthcare system. In Sweden, this could even fall under the high-cost protection system, setting a maximum annual cap for what patients are required to pay for their medication – or fruit, in this case. 👉 What do you think of this kind of preventative treatments? Could prescriptions of fruits and veggies be the future of healthcare? Let’s discuss below! ___ In our new “What if” AI series, we explore innovative solutions that have the potential to reshape the future of food. From urban farming to traceable supply chains, Greenfood are committed to turning visionary ideas into real-world actions. Now, we invite everyone in the food industry to join us as we dare to dream of a healthier, more sustainable future. #reimaginefood #foodshift #greenfood

Introducing Annie Svensson, a key member of our sustainability team here at Greenfood! 🌿 With her deep expertise in sustainable farming systems, food supply chains, and agroecology, Annie plays a crucial role in our mission to reduce environmental impact. 𝐇𝐢 𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐞! 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐚 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐝𝐨 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐛𝐢𝐨𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲? 💬 "Two of the biggest threats to biodiversity are land-use change and overexploitation of land. As a Swedish company that imports a lot of fruits and vegetables, we can primarily map our supply chains and carefully choose the regions where we grow and source our products." 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐧 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐧𝐨𝐰? 💬 "We’ve got an incredibly exciting pilot project with RISE launching this fall, focusing on how we can start measuring and evaluating our biodiversity efforts within the SBTn framework. It’s a unique initiative, and we’ll be among the first to do this. I’m really looking forward to sharing our discoveries and next steps, so stay tuned!"

We’re donating 40 extra surgeries! ✊🍌 Greenfood and our Daily Greens brand are proud to support a project that's especially close to our hearts. For every organic Daily Greens banana sold, we contribute to Operation Smile Sweden and their incredible work – providing life-changing surgeries for children born with cleft lip, jaw, and palate. This October, we’re going even further by donating 40 additional surgeries to children in Ecuador, on top of those already funded through our banana sales. That means 40 more children will get a new smile and a new chance at life! If you’d like to support this meaningful cause, check out the link in the comments. Every contribution and every banana makes a difference. 💛 P.S. A special shout-out to our amazing colleagues Magnus Falk and Gabriella Svensson (in the photo), for their dedication to this important initiative – and to all the others behind the scenes who have contributed just as much!

⛰🍈 728 kg – that’s the amount of fruits and veggies the average Swedish family would eat every year if they followed the recommended intake. That’s 60 kg a month, or 14 kg a week. Imagine stacking that amount of fresh produce on your kitchen table every Sunday! Unfortunately, we are not there yet. Today, only 1 in 10 eats as much fruit and vegetables as recommended, with big implications for public health. At Greenfood, we’re committed to change this. We’ve actively pushed for the implementation of the EU’s fruit program in Sweden, and through our company Ahlström Factory AB, we’re working hand in hand with school cafeterias to encourage kids to try plant-based meals. Not to mention the explosion of our Picadeli salad bars, now popping up in cities from Sweden to the US – making healthy choices fun and accessible for all. 👉 How can we address the gap between recommended fruit and vegetable consumption and actual consumer behavior? Are regulations the answer, or do the food industry need to take more initiative? 🥒❄️ Imagine lush greenhouses thriving in a cold and snowy winter landscape. Sounds surreal? Thanks to modern technology and residual heat from data centers and other industries, growing vegetables in extreme climates is no longer a distant dream. This opens up new possibilities for sustainable farming, even in remote places like the most northern part of Sweden. Could this be the future of food security? At Greenfood, we're on a mission to bring this vision to life. For example, we’re partnering with start-up companies like Agtira to explore vertical urban farming of cucumbers. That way, more consumers can enjoy fresh and locally produced vegetables – all year round. 👉 Are there any other initiatives we should take a closer look at? One of Sweden's largest solar power plants is now up and running! In collaboration with Öresundskraft and Soltech Energy Solutions, we've successfully installed 3.8 MW of solar panels on top our new food and logistics hub, Greenhouse, in Helsingborg. This impressive setup is expected to generate around 3.5 million kWh annually. The energy produced here could power approximately 700 typical villas or 1,750 apartments each year. Not only will it cover about 20% of the facility's energy needs, but it’s also anticipated to reduce CO2 emissions by an impressive 150 tons per year. A giant leap for us at Greenfood Group, and a significant step towards more renewable energy for the entire Helsingborg region. ☀️☀️☀️

We're thrilled to share our latest opinion piece featured in Altinget, a respected independent newspaper focused on Swedish and EU politics. In this article, our CEO, David von Laskowski, PhD, dives into the Swedish National Food Agency’s updated dietary guidelines – a positive step toward healthier eating in Sweden. But will recommendations alone be enough? To truly change people’s eating habits, Sweden must go beyond advice and take concrete action. We propose an action plan with key measures to promote healthier food choices, for example: 1. Remove VAT on fruits and vegetables to make healthy choices more affordable. 2. Introduce a “Healthy Food Subsidy” to complement the current wellness subsidy and encourage nutritious eating. 3. Expand the EU’s fruit subsidy program nationwide by 2025, to increase access to fruits and vegetables in schools. Read the full article here (in Swedish): https://lnkd.in/dGUuHvMd

Convenience foods continue to thrive, with three in five consumers globally using them weekly. As much as one in five are using them more than once a day! Consumers now want convenient meals that feel genuine and delivers on taste, yet save them time. With a product portfolio that includes pre-chopped vegetables, sliced fruit, and convenient, healthy options like sandwiches, wraps, and ready-made salads, it feels like we're right on track. 🎯 Read the full trend report from Innova Market Insights in the comments.
