Industrial Energy-Related Technologies and Systems (IETS TCP) is an IEA Technology Collaboration Programme Our mission is to foster international co-operation among OECD and non-OECD countries for accelerated research and technology development of industrial energy-related technologies and systems. The IETS program focuses on energy use in a broad range of industry sectors, uniting IEA activities in this area. Through our activities, we will increase awareness of technology and energy efficiency in industry, contribute to synergy between different systems and technologies,and enhance international cooperation related to sustainable development. Participants will implement a wide range of co-operative activities in the fields of - Scientific research, - Technology and systems research and development, - Demonstration and deployment, - Technology and systems foresighting, - Technology and systems assessment of policies and consequences, and - Dissemination of information.

🏭 These two graphs speak volumes about industry progress to net-zero. We're doing reasonably well on clean technology manufacturing, but we're doing pretty miserably on manufacturing near-zero emissions materials like aluminium and steel. We all need to communicate better with consumers, companies and policymakers about the need to decarbonise. The IETS TCP is in mourning. Brian Elmegaard was not only a dedicated and highly competent Danish ExCo delegate and researcher, but also a genuinely kind and pleasant person to be around. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time.
🕊️𝐑𝐄𝐌𝐄𝐌𝐁𝐄𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐅𝐄𝐒𝐒𝐎𝐑 𝐁𝐑𝐈𝐀𝐍 𝐄𝐋𝐌𝐄𝐆𝐀𝐀𝐑𝐃 1970-2024 Professor, PhD Brian Elmegaard sadly passed away on 6 October 2024 after a long illness. Brian had a long and impressive career as a researcher and lecturer in thermal energy systems at DTU Construct. Brian’s career in engineering started at the Copenhagen University College of Engineering where he graduated with a BSc in engineering in 1993. Later he completed an MSc in mechanical engineering in 1996 and a PhD in 1999 at DTU. He continued at DTU and became Professor in 2018. He was Head of the Section for Thermal Energy Systems from 2007- 2023. Brian's research was characterized by close industrial collaboration, and included e.g. integration of heat pumps, industrial energy systems and district heating in holistic solutions. Brian was a valued collaboration partner both at DTU and externally. He gave high priority to teaching, and the students responded with a high level of commitment and great feedback. Brian has supervised countless MSc thesis and PhD students and has thereby left a huge mark on Danish business life. Brian was incredibly hardworking and productive as well as a well-respected colleague and manager. He was helpful, always open to dialogue and contributed to a friendly and productive working environment in the section and the institute. Outside of work, he enjoyed playing rugby and was involved in his family’s interest in horses. Brian leaves behind his wife Karen and their two adult children. He will be greatly missed by his colleagues at DTU Construct. #dtudk

It is always a pleasure when international cooperation leads to "concrete" results. Researchers from 9 countries are working together as part of Industrial Energy-Related Technologies and Systems (IETS TCP) Task 21 Circular Carbon and Industrial Symbiosis. One focus was on developing so-called Carbon Sankey diagrams for the hard-to-abate industry. One was created for the cement industry as part of our task and has now been published. Daniele Ferrario Tobias Pröll Stefano Stendardo Andrea Lanzini focused on the design and analysis of a cost-efficient and low-emitting cement plant integrated with an absorption-based Post-Combustion Carbon Capture (PCCC) system.
