✨ Remarkably, with three quick buys generating immediate positive effects for society, alcohol policy provides the second most impactful set of measures, after the set of quick buys on chronic respiratory diseases, which contains 4 measures with immediate positive effect. 💡 New Study: Alcohol Policies to Prevent NCDs Generate Positive Societal Impacts Immediately 👉 Researchers reviewed 49 interventions previously established as cost-effective to identify the earliest possible detectable effect on high-level population health targets. 25 interventions qualified as quick buys, including four alcohol policy solutions. ⚡ With an eye on the 2030 SDG deadline, researchers sought to identify, from among the best buys and other recommended interventions, those that can be expected to demonstrate impact on population health within five years or less—and in some cases immediately; these are the quick buys. 🙌 Notably, three alcohol policy quick buys generate positive effects immediately. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dw2VG65e #AlcPolPrio #ActOnNCDs #Agenda2030 #SDGs #DevelopmentForAll #HealthForAll #BestBuys #QuickBuys #AlcoholPolicy #AlcoholTaxation David Stuckler Gauden Galea Carina Ferreira-Borges Maria Neufeld Hans Kluge Allison Ekberg Dvaladze Angela (CCC-MDA) Ciobanu, Marilys Corbex, Dr Jill Farrington, Daša Kokole, María Lasierra, Ivo Rakovac, Elena Tsoy, Kremlin Wickramasinghe, Julianne Williams Carina Alm Johan Dahlstrand Anja Busse NACADA Celine A. Water for Profits, Not for People: How Big Alcohol is Draining Mexico Dry 🚨 The alcohol industry extracts more than 243 million m3 of water annually in Mexico – the equivalent of the water consumption of all the inhabitants of Mexico City for 72 days. In Mexico, 12 million people lack access to drinking water. ✊🏾 Communities in Yucatan, Coahuila, Oaxaca and Baja California are experiencing water shortages, while alcohol industry extraction continues. 💦 The human right to water is essential for a dignified life and should therefore be treated as a social rather than an economic good, write Alejandro Calvillo Luis Alonso Robledo, and Norberto Francisco H.. 👉🏽👉🏽 https://lnkd.in/df63gAJv #worldwaterday #watersecurity #waterjustice #drinkingwater #alcoholharms #bigalcoholexposed #conflictofinterest #cdoh El Poder del Consumidor

🚨 How Big Alcohol Is Hijacking the Road Safety Agenda in Colombia 💯 Powerful analysis by Angélica María C. 🚑 In Colombia, road users want to feel safe. But preventable alcohol harm on Colombian roads puts many people at risk. ⚠️ The alcohol industry opposes these effective solutions and undermines the road safety agenda through ineffective and counter-productive “self-regulation” and Corporate Social Responsibility, that disguises alcohol brand promotions. ⚡ It does not have to be this way, writes Angelica Maria: the high-impact alcohol policies of the SAFER package, particularly the pro-health taxes, reducing alcohol availability and improving alcohol-impaired driving counter-measures, are scientifically proven solutions to improve road safety. 🤝 Prioritising the SAFER alcohol policy blue print and ensuring road safety policy-making is free of conflicts of interest is essential to achieve safer roads and healthier lives for Colombians. https://lnkd.in/gzQc7gED #BigAlcoholExposed #RoadSafety #PublicSafety #PublicHealth #AlcoholHarms #ConflictOfInterest #AlcoholPolicy #SAFER #AlcoholTaxation Etienne Krug Sudhvir Singh Monika Kosinska Adnan Hyder Chidinma Opoko Binta Sako Nhan Tran Professor Ailan Li Juan Arturo Sabines Torres Jarbas Barbosa da Silva Jr

Our president Kristina Sperkova had the honor to moderate the Planet Youth Conference in Reykjavik for 2,5 days. We are very thankful for our partnership with Planet Youth over the years and for the chance to contribute to making this conference a big success. The Planet Youth team has prepared one enriching conference built around the Icelandic Prevention Model and its transferability 🌍💡 The participants got to hear presentations from different parts of the world showing how communities come together, how carefully and thoroughly they collect and then work with available information about their young people and how they built their activities around the facts and on science. Be it communities that have worked for several years in Ireland, or newcomers from Finland. Be it urban communities in Scotland or tribal communities in Washington State to name just few we got to see. 🫱🏼🫲🏾 The model is possible to adapt because when the core idea and the principles are very clear, the implementation is open for flexibility. 👉🏽👉🏽Kristina’s main takeaways from the conference: 💡 Prevention is a mindset. It is a mindset showing the trust in the potential of all people, it includes long-term thinking and collective responsibility. 💡Through prevention we shape environments into contexts where everyone gets the opportunity for self-realisation at their own pace 🚀 💡Prevention is never about one person, neither on the sending nor the receiving end. In prevention, we work together 🤝 All parts of society contribute with their bits and pieces to built something whole. Ubuntu. Through prevention we can foster kindness, which is so much needed in this world these days (always) ❤️🌍 Congratulations Planet Youth for a great event and all the best for your work 🙌🏽 📸 credit: Planet Youth #pyconference2025 #PlanetYouth #PreventionWorks #HealthForAll #HealthPromotion #DevelopmentForAll

New Survey Reveals How People in the US View Alcohol’s Risks 💡 A recent Pew Research Center survey sheds light on how young people in the US perceive alcohol use and its risks. ⚡ The findings highlight that a remarkable portion of the population, especially younger adults, is increasingly taking deliberate decisions about the role alcohol should and should not play in their lives, social activities and environments. 👏 This is adding up to a perceivable shift in social norms becoming healthier and more inclusive. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dPUJ9jCn #SoberCurious #GenZ #Millennials #HealthForAll #AlcoholFree #AlcoholAwareness #SocialNorms

🎗️ Global Burden of Colorectal Cancer Deaths Due to Alcohol From 1990 to 2030 💡 This study aims to fill gaps in current research by conducting an in-depth analysis of specific colorectal cancer risk factors, including smoking, alcohol consumption, and obesity, across 21 regions and five social development index (SDI) levels. 🚨 In 2019, the number of colorectal cancer deaths globally due to risk factors smoking, alcohol consumption, and obesity increased to 142,931, 52,495, and 85,882 cases respectively, collectively accounting for approximately one-third of all Colorectal cancer-related deaths. 👉🏽👉🏽 The findings emphasize that lowering the burden of colorectal cancer mortality requires the adoption of efficient alcohol policy measures. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dm2BSzZr #AlcoholHarms #NCDs #Cancer #ColorectalCancer #CancerPrevention #AlcoholPolicy #AlcoholAwareness #AlcPolPrio #HealthForAll
