Remember good times at Lindbäcks Bygg. 😀 Two years ago Lindbäcks got nominated to the Swedish lean award as the first construction company. Why? We had secured the function, availability and capacity of the machines and equipment to the new factory. We were running the most automated line ( Wall line 1 ) at 96% availability at a 7-minute takt time. (Not one machine, the whole line) We reached and surpassed the investment targets. It took us three years of hard and dedicated work. We produced more than 80 external walls in one shift. How? 1.      We all worked towards the same target. 2.      We takted the line to visualise the target in real time. We worked with the right issues by logging stop time at every takt, every day and had multiple follow ups of the issues causing the stops and we addressed the issues to other functions when needed. 3.      We secured all input: machine files, shop drawing and tolerances of all materials. 4.      We trained and certified staff to run and maintain the machines and tools on the line. 5.      We secured the machine settings and optimized the machines together with the suppliers. 6.      We could in the end experiment and test different balances to also optimize productivity. All this work created probably the best modular factory in Europe, by investing in people and work methods. The machines were only a basis. https://lnkd.in/dRMTqmdK

Our client Evergreen modular has in a short time been able to deliver great projects. One key to success is their start in small scale. By having time to iterate and improve the product design they have reached a good design for manufacturing. Soon to a level when it makes sense to scale up the production and automate work to further decrease cost.   Some startup companies in the modular business want to create a big factory before they even have a good product design or a pipeline, and they want to create a factory where they can do everything because they don’t know what they want to do. This is a big risk for the product quality and for productivity and the whole investment case. Better to do as Evergreen - Just start and learn until you reach a good product and a design for manufacturing.
