Some of the takeaways from the annual CERAWeek'24: - Demand for oil and gas continues to rise alongside solar, wind and biofuels - Despite geopolitical turmoils, global oil prices have remained stable, in a range between $75 and $85 per barrel - This has not accelerated the transition to electric vehicles and renewable fuels just yet even though parties are building towards energy security - Carbon sequestration technology and hydrogen fuels will continue their vital roles towards decarbonization - OPEC forecasts relatively strong oil demand and economic growth, a view that encourages more oil and gas activity and mergers

Will ammonia become the new alternative clean fuel for vessels? With IMO 2020 in our rear view mirror, we look towards the achieving the targets set by IMO 2050. An ambitious goal of net zero GHG emissions from international shipping will force shipowners to tinker with alternatives. Ammonia, by and large used in Agriculture as fertilizer, when produced with renewable energy is referred to as 'Green Ammonia'. A zero-carbon fuel that would aid in shipowners meeting the IMO 2050 emissions reduction targets. While there is great optimism within the industry towards 'Green Ammonia' for decarbonisation, the challenges such as toxicity to crew and marine life remain. The key is to de-risk Ammonia as a fuel through proper handling, transportation and storage. Follow us at calibr:e for the latest news in commodities and shipping. Berge Bulk is pleased to announce the order of two ammonia fuelled vessels. The 210,000-DWT Newcastlemax vessels will be built in Qingdao, Behai. “We are excited to order our first ammonia dual fuel vessels as part of our continued journey towards a zero carbon future. The use of ammonia fuel represents an important milestone in our commitment to operate a zero emissions vessel by 2030 and an essential pillar in our plan to decarbonise. We continue to take urgent action in all four areas of our strategy to effectively reduce our current emissions and achieve carbon neutrality by 2025.” - James Marshall, CEO and Founder, Berge Bulk Last year, Berge Bulk unveiled a four-pillar “Marshall Plan” to achieve a zero carbon future. The plan focuses on (1) improving fleet efficiency; (2) leveraging the latest maritime technology; (3) converting to new fuels; and (4) capturing the remaining carbon directly or indirectly. A big THANK YOU to Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding Heavy Industry for their support in constructing these two new ships. #AmmoniaFuel #MovingMountains #MovingToZero #ZeroEmissions Find out more here: https://ow.ly/o0gi50QLihC

Finding a job nowadays isn’t just about the best pay. There is a gradual shift between generational attitudes. We realize that there are many key factors such as work/life balance, company’s environment and culture that play a role in the compatibility and eventually longevity of one’s stint in a workplace. Knowing what you want does not mean getting what you want. There are certain smoke and mirrors which leads to uncertainty when it comes to landing a new gig. We aim to draw the curtains and create a better transparent relationship between a candidate and a hiring manager. We strive to understand the wants and needs of both parties and connect the dots! As we bid adieu to a very eventful 2023 and usher in the new year, here’s a warm and truly heartfelt happy new year from me and the team at calibr:e. A huge and sincere thank you to all those who have supported us in the inception of calibr:e and our growth this year. A big heartfelt thank you to all our clients, candidates and supportive and helpful network; without whom none of this would be possible. As we go into 2024, we will seek to grow at a measured and organic pace, capturing opportunities as they present themselves. Further bolstering and strengthening our commodities offering and coverage, expanding our coverage of shipping, building upon and growing our finance and accounting pillar, and likely also building out web3.0 and new tech. However any growth of the team and business shall never come at the expense of our core values and value proposition; and we will never compromise on our standards of professionalism, high personal touch and personal care, confidentiality and discretion, and above all honesty and integrity. So once again, here’s wishing everyone a most blessed and successful 2024. May you all navigate the upcoming (likely) challenging year along with the (probably many) opportunities it presents with a huge dose of wisdom and wits. Happy new year! - Daniel

You learn something new everyday. =) Didn't know this little known fact, and what a nickname to be called the "father of containerisation". Sometimes, the simplest of ideas can have the biggest of impacts.
The entrepreneur that literally changed the world? Not Bezos, musk, or gates. But a truck driver named Malcolm Mclean. His truck sat still for 8 HOURS on THANKSGIVING waiting for his cargo to be unloaded when he realized... "What if you could take the WHOLE trailer off the truck rather than unloading & reloading each time?" His invention? THE SHIPPING CONTAINER The results? Global shipping costs went from $6 a tonne to $0.16 a tonne Arguably, the most influential entrepreneur of the last century and the man who made modern global trade possible. Sometimes the greatest innovations in the world aren't found on the homepage of TechCrunch=) Wiki: https://lnkd.in/g2bXp6P
