In today’s #InvestorGlossary episode we talk about acquisitions. An #acquisition is a good exit scenario for your investment. A bigger company buys the startup, and you cash out your shares! Acquisitions typically happen within 3-7 years after the initial investment, and investors can see returns ranging from 2x to 10x their investment amount. Acquisitions can happen at any moment, with any valuation, however, we do see that a $100M #valuation can be a very attractive target for acquisition. Why $100M? 👉It is great market validation: Reaching this stage suggests the startup has achieved some level of product-market fit, a loyal customer base, and significant growth potential. 👉It is an acquisition sweet spot: For acquiring companies, a $100M valuation is large enough to be strategically valuable but not so high that it becomes cost-prohibitive. A successful #founder will think about an acquisition right from the beginning. How will they get there, who could be potential acquirers, what they value, and the milestones needed to make it happen. As an #investor, don’t shy away from these conversations with the founder! ➡️Ready to start your angel investor journey? ➡️Join our ‘First steps towards angel investing’ webinar where we help you start your angel investor journey: https://lnkd.in/g-6qGeXk ➡️Enjoying our series? Epic Angels
Venture Capital and Private Equity Principals
The epic female angel investor collective
About us
Epic Angels is democratizing angel investing. We make angel investing accessible. We give women the confidence to invest, by learning about the investment process, and understanding how other women invest. Epic Angels is a network of female executives and operators who have built and expanded companies in all parts of the world. We are the largest female-only angel network in Asia Pacific. Research shows, investors tend to back those they perceive as similar to them. Instead of trying to convince male investors to invest in women, we need to focus on increasing the percentage of female investors. We need to close the financial gender gap. Our focus is early-stage startups in APAC across all verticals. We invest in pre-seed, seed and series A rounds. Our ticket sizes range from 50K to 250K USD. We are strong advocates for female leadership, and invest in startups with at least one woman on the executive team. Most importantly, we invest in people. Founders who refuse to die and choose agility over ego.

Another particularly fun week at Epic Angels - this week was all about #Jakarta and its #startup and #investor scene! You know, we see many great startups from #Indonesia - many to do with health, environment, education, ie problems with a long term horizon - but on the investor-side things tend to be a little slower in our experience. So we took the trip ✈️ to dig a little deeper.... As we tapped into the local network, this is what we found: 🧕 💵 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 & 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘆: traditional values being strong, women are warming up to the idea of investing their self-earned money into startups (besides investing it in their families). 🧕🤙 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 & 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 #𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺𝘀: female founders from Indonesia are solid. We met many visionary founders - tackling fundamental challenges, many in the sustainability space - leveraging physical or digital technology - showing up in a humble and authentic way. Michelle Arsjad, Lyonda and Elisa are not only great examples of the above, they also delivered top notch pitches during our Angel Investing Demystified session 🙌 which was attended by around 30 curious (aspiring) investors in the lively spaces of Impact Hub Jakarta! It was an engaging and lively session, with yummie food and local beer and wines! 🥂 Thanks Monk's Hill Ventures and Moonshot Ventures for making this possible and the great partnership 🤝 𝗦𝗼, 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁? Pitch Night on 7th November, 6:30 JKT time. We invite Indonesia-based women with an interest in innovation, impact and entrepreneurship to join for our very first in-person pitch night kindly hosted by Natasha A. & Samira Shihab! Thank you both for leading the pack! 🚀 Want to be part of it? You can. In this Friday’s episode of the #InvestorGlossary, we talk about the much desired #exit. With startup investments, to get an ROI you need to exit your investment. Since the shares you purchased are not listed, you can’t just sell them. Here are the different scenarios for an exit:- 👉Acquisition: The startup gets acquired by another company. 👉IPO: The startup goes public, meaning its shares are sold on the stock market. 👉Secondary Sale: You sell your shares to another investor before an IPO or acquisition. 👉Management Buyout: The startup's management team buys back the company from investors but this is not common. In the next few episodes, we will dive deeper in the first three options, #acquisition, #IPO and #secondaryshares. When you invest, it is important to have a conversation with the founders about their exit strategy. It might feel weird, since they just started, but as an investor, you want to keep the end in mind. Remember- exits take time. Don't get discouraged if it doesn't happen overnight. Angel investing is a long-term game, and patience is key! ➡️Ready to start building your portfolio? ➡️Join our ‘First steps towards angel investing’ webinar where we help you start your angel investor journey: https://lnkd.in/g-6qGeXk ➡️Enjoying our series?
