On Tuesday, 22 October, EuroCham’s Circular Economy Committee organised a webinar on “UN Treaty on Plastic Pollution: Impact and Key Policy Considerations”. We would like to express our gratitude to the industry leaders for their invaluable contribution to the discussion: Mr Carsten Wachholz (Ellen MacArthur Foundation), Ms Marieke Nispeling (FrieslandCampina), Ms Claudia Chan (The Coca-Cola Company) and Mr Jon Khoo (the LEGO Group). The panel was skillfully moderated by Mr Lloyd Lowe (BASF), who shaped the narrative and led a vibrant discussion with our panellists, ensuring a dynamic and engaging exchange of ideas. Key Takeaways: - The Global Treaty’s Importance: As we approach the next round of negotiations (INC-5) in Busan, this treaty aims to address the full lifecycle of plastics, including design, production, and end-of-life, with a legally binding framework by end of 2024. - Circular Economy as a Catalyst: The panellists emphasized the need for global regulations to enable circularity, pushing for the elimination of problematic plastics and fostering innovation in sustainable materials and recycling processes. - Industry Collaboration & Innovation: Panelists shared how their companies are already aligning with the treaty's vision by setting ambitious sustainability targets and collaborating with governments and NGOs. Harmonized product design and extended producer responsibility (EPR) were cited as key mechanisms for change. - Building Trust through Dialogue: The need for continuous multi-stakeholder engagement was a recurring theme. Global frameworks must foster trust, and open dialogue, and provide technical guidance to support industries and governments on this journey. - Action Starts Now: While the treaty sets the groundwork, immediate action on local and regional levels is essential. Businesses and governments must take proactive steps, from reducing plastic use to enhancing waste management and recycling infrastructures. We would like to thank all who joined us and made this event a successful one! #TeamEurope #EuroChamSG #PlasticPollution #CircularEconomy Nele Cornelis Shelly De Groote Christine Jeremiah Mai Josephine Tanya Sahni Vanessa Sipple-Asher Eva Vincetic

On 23 October, EuroCham Singapore hosted an insightful panel discussion focused on 'Young Talents and Potential Leaders in Finance' at LBBW, bringing together insights from academia, the financial sector, and students. The event highlighted the critical role that young professionals play in Singapore’s finance industry, especially as the country strengthens its position as a global financial hub. Moderated by Prof. Rick Marchese (ESSEC Business School), the panel featured an engaging mix of perspectives from Prof. Angie Low (Nanyang Business School), Mr Jan Krüger (LBBW), and Mr Enoch Ng, a final-year finance student from NUS. Their insights shed light on how universities are preparing students for the evolving demands of the finance sector, how companies are adapting their recruitment strategies to attract talent, and the challenges students face in transitioning from campus to the office. A key takeaway was the need for closer alignment between academic preparation and the skills required by the finance industry, ensuring that Singapore continues to be an attractive destination for young finance professionals. These events are essential in bridging the gap between educational institutions and different sectors, fostering collaboration that helps shape the next generation of leaders. Thank you to all the panellists and attendees for making this discussion such a success. #TeamEurope #EuroChamSG #FinancialServices Nele Cornelis Shelly De Groote Christine Jeremiah Mai Josephine Tanya Sahni Vanessa Sipple-Asher Eva Vincetic
