Living in the northern hemisphere? Chances are that you faced record breaking temperatures this year. And a direct correlation to this has been noticed in the events industry as well, owing to its largely onsite nature. But are there some ways to beat the heat waves? 𝟭. 𝗢𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗩𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 Choose shaded venues and avoid peak heat hours (usually between 12 PM and 4 PM). 𝟮. 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗛𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 Set up accessible water and electrolyte beverages points. 𝟯. 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗔𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗲𝘀 Send out heat advisories and tips on how to stay cool before the event. Encourage attendees to wear lightweight, light-colored clothing, and bring sunscreen. 𝟰. 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 Let's be honest, it's high time we start strictly implementing sustainable practices across all levels in the events industry. As the saying goes, prevention is better than cure. The Paris Olympics took event planning to a new level with bold risks. However, not everything went according to plan. Here’s a breakdown of what was tried, what went wrong, and the key lessons event planners can take away from this grand spectacle. 𝟭. 𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘀 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 - First-Ever Outdoor Opening Ceremony: Paris broke tradition by hosting the Olympic opening ceremony outside a stadium. Athletes paraded along the Seine River on boats. - Massive Artistic Showcase: The ceremony featured over 3,000 performers, including musicians, dancers, actors, and circus artists. 𝟮. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗪𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗪𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴 - Weather Woes: The unexpected rain turned into a major issue, leading to drenched costumes, power outages, and technical difficulties with some of the floats. - Technical and Logistical Glitches: There were significant errors, such as South Korean athletes being misidentified as representing North Korea, and the Olympic flag being hoisted upside down. 𝟯. 𝗟𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘀 𝗢𝗹𝘆𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗰𝘀 - Always Have a Weather Contingency Plan: The rain demonstrated the need for thorough weather preparation - Plan for Every Detail: The mishaps with the flag and athlete identification highlight the importance of meticulous planning and double-checking every aspect of the event to avoid embarrassing mistakes. In 1930s, economist John Maynard Keynes’ estimated that a 𝟭𝟱-𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸 would be possible within a few generations. Technological advancements, he predicted, would improve productivity to the point that humans could enjoy the same living standards with less time devoted to work. Well, that did not age well. Predictions about the future of work typically bear little resemblance to the actual future once we find ourselves standing in it. But what we could do is find insights on rethinking future work models. With the advent of AI, time is ripe to consider the importance of flexibility, and building resilience to future-proof your organization. Ready to thrive in an unpredictable world? Deloitte recently published something really cool on the future of work models! Find the link to the article in the comments! #AI #WorkModels #Future #Tech #EventTech
