Mandai Nature was excited to participate in the NTU Biodiversity Week (NBW) Festival last week, joining a network of passionate nature groups to showcase our collective efforts in protecting the region's incredible biodiversity. Over the two days, we had the privilege of connecting with students and educators at Nanyang Technological University Singapore, sparking meaningful conversations about wildlife conservation. We shared our work in the Mandai Wildlife Reserve and highlighted key projects across Singapore and Southeast Asia focused on protecting threatened species. It was inspiring to be part of such a dynamic event, organised by Earthlink NTU, where everyone came together to engage in important conversations about preserving our planet’s natural heritage. 💚🌏 #NBW2025 #YouthForNature

Protecting our nature and wildlife for a sustainable future
About us
Mandai Nature is dedicated to advancing efforts on biodiversity conservation in Asia, with a focus on averting species extinction, especially in Southeast Asia by delivering conservation programmes at scale with partners, as well as convening partnerships and collaborative alliances to address critical conservation outcomes. As the conservation arm of Mandai Wildlife Group, we also work closely with the Group to apply holistic conservation approaches by integrating ex situ and in situ conservation action. Mandai Nature hosts the IUCN SSC Asian Species Action Partnership (ASAP) secretariat and Conservation Planning Specialist Group (CPSG) Southeast Asia Resource Centre. In 2022, we established the Southeast Asia IUCN SSC Centre for Species Survival, in collaboration with IUCN Species Survival Commission (SSC). Mandai Nature is a non-profit entity established by Temasek and Mandai Wildlife Group, which manages Singapore's zoological parks such as Singapore Zoo, Night Safari, River Wonders and Bird Paradise.

𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁 💭 𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝗮 𝘇𝗼𝗼 𝗱𝗼 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻? Check out this insightful article from The Straits Times that delves into this important question: https://bit.ly/43aDagd In today’s world, zoos and aquariums are no longer just places of entertainment. They have a critical responsibility to act as hubs for wildlife conservation and education. These institutions collaborate with global conservation organisations, scientists, and governments to protect threatened species and their habitats. As the conservation arm of Mandai Wildlife Group, we work closely to bridge the gap between ex-situ and in-situ conservation efforts, creating tangible impacts for species both in human care and in the wild. For example, establishing insurance colonies and conservation breeding programmes for critically endangered species that could one day help repopulate the wild with their progeny, helping to ensure their long-term survival. Conservation is a shared effort, and no institution can do it alone. With the support of partners in conservation, science, and education, we are shaping a future where wildlife conservation is not just an aspiration, but a reality. Celebrating women in conservation this International Women’s Day! 🌏🌳 Women play a crucial role in protecting Southeast Asia’s rich biodiversity — from conducting wildlife research to engaging communities in conservation efforts. Yet, many still face cultural and socio-economic challenges that limit their potential to lead and make a lasting impact in this field. Recognising the invaluable contributions of women, many of our regional partners — including Yayasan Orangutan Sumatera Lestari - Orangutan Information Centre, SwaraOwa, and Katala Foundation — actively involve local women’s groups in conservation efforts such as habitat protection and agroforestry initiatives, all while creating sustainable livelihoods. We’re committed to fostering and supporting opportunities for women to thrive in conservation. Together, we will continue breaking barriers and building a future where women have the space to lead, inspire, and protect our planet. 🌏💚

This #WorldWildlifeDay, let’s commit to investing in our planet 🌍 With over 1 million species at risk of extinction due to biodiversity loss, climate change, and human activity, urgent action is needed. The theme of this year’s World Wildlife Day, "Wildlife Conservation Finance: Investing in People and Planet," emphasises the critical role that innovative financing solutions, like conservation bonds and ecosystem credits, can play in safeguarding our future. Nature is the backbone of our economies, health, and well-being. From rainforests that sustain diverse species to oceans that regulate our climate and support communities, investing in nature is not just a choice - it’s essential for both wildlife and people. #WWD2025 #WildlifeConservationFinance #InvestinginPeopleandPlanet

𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻!🐢💚 Our colleagues from the IUCN SSC Asian Species Action Partnership (ASAP) recently returned from an inspiring visit to the Turtle Conservation Society of Malaysia (TCSM) in Terengganu, Malaysia. The team got hands-on, from exploring TCSM’s turtle hatchery, where southern river terrapins are incubated and raised before being released into the wild, to joining field teams on river patrols around Pasir Gajah village to monitor and remove harmful fishing gear. Additionally, they met artisans from TCSM’s women empowerment programme, where participants create beautiful batik products to generate additional income. TCSM is part of ASAP’s regional network, which spans more than 200 conservation organisations, all united in the mission to secure a future for Southeast Asia’s most threatened species. The organisation is co-founded by Dr Pelf-Nyok Chen, a graduate of ASAP's inaugural Network of Women (NOW) Leaders cohort, and an inspiring female conservationist. Through our support for the ASAP Secretariat, we’re proud to fund and grow programmes that drive positive impact on Critically Endangered wildlife in the region. 🌏💙 Photos: TCSM, ASAP #conservation #fieldtrip #SouthernRiverTerrapin #ConservationInAction #ASAP #ASAPSpecies #WomenInConservation

On #WorldPangolinDay, we turn our attention to the conservation of pangolins in Singapore. One of the biggest dangers for pangolins here is traffic accidents🚘, which are a significant cause of injury. Between 2021 and 2023, an average of over 40 pangolins—both dead and alive—were admitted annually for care. Last year alone, around 40 Sunda pangolins were rescued across Singapore and brought to the Wildlife Healthcare and Research Centre located in the Mandai Wildlife Reserve. With specialised care and treatment from Mandai Wildlife Group's veterinary team, these pangolins have the chance to recover and, hopefully, return safely to the wild. 💚 However, rescuing pangolins is only part of the solution. We all have a role to play in protecting these incredible creatures. Here’s how 𝗬𝗢𝗨 can get involved: 🚗 𝗗𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆: Keep an eye out for wildlife on roads, especially near forested areas 📚 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲: Understanding more about pangolins helps protect them 🚔 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗲: Illegal trafficking threatens pangolins worldwide 🚫 𝗦𝗮𝘆 𝗻𝗼 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘀: Never buy items made from pangolin scales or meat Pictured below: Dr Charlene Yeong, our Senior Manager of Wildlife Health, with Springle, a juvenile Sunda pangolin rescued in 2024.
