🎉 Here’s to celebrating 10 remarkable years! 🎉 #Onthisday in 2014, the Ministry of Law Services Centre (MSC) officially opened at Level 7 of the URA Centre (East Wing) to streamline and enhance MinLaw’s services delivery to Singaporeans. Prior to 2014, the frontline counters for the Insolvency and Public Trustee's Office and the Legal Aid Bureau were located separately at Levels 6 and 8 of the URA Centre (East Wing), while the Community Mediation Centres were at The Treasury and the State Courts. Over the past decade, MSC has transformed from purely face-to-face counters to fully video conferencing counters. Video conferencing service is also available every Friday at 8 different ServiceSG sites across Singapore. This journey would not have been possible without the unwavering dedication and hard work of our incredible team at MSC in providing support for members of public. Here’s to many more years of making a difference together! #SGFolkLaw #MSC #MinLawServicesCentre

Why do people volunteer? For many of our Community Mediation Centre’s (CMC's) volunteer mediators, it's the strong sense of purpose and desire in wanting to give back to the community by building bridges between neighbours in conflict and preserving relationships. During the Mediators' Appointment Ceremony and Appreciation Dinner 2024, we celebrated their achievements and contributions. It was inspiring to see how they have served with the CMC for as long as 26 years, and still continue to believe in the importance of mediation – some have even shared that volunteering in mediation had made them better persons. We salute these mediators for stepping forward to serve, and for playing an important role in enhancing Singapore's social harmony. Catch the highlights here! At 103 years old, Mdm Liew was Legal Aid Bureau’s (LAB) oldest applicant. She spoke only Hokkien but managed to take the stand and have her case heard, with the help of LAB officers. #legalaidbureau #helpwithaheart #LAB #ProBonoPassion

This year's Forum on Asian Insolvency Reform (FAIR) was a buzzing reunion for the restructuring and insolvency community after 6 years – the first in-person conference post-Covid. With over 100 attendees, the 2-day event saw leading experts engaged in discussions to improve and innovate insolvency frameworks. It had been Singapore’s honour to be the host this year. We hope our guests had an enriching and fruitful time here.
MinLaw hosted the Forum on Asian Insolvency Reform (FAIR) this year in Singapore. I was honoured to welcome international leaders and experts in this space –including policy makers, judges, and private practitioners – from over 20 jurisdictions to share their experiences and discuss pertinent issues. The theme for this year, “Innovating insolvency in a transforming Asia”, aptly reflects this point in the region’s growing economies. It is important for us to innovate our restructuring and insolvency (R&I) regimes as it supports economies and their growth, in order to help viable businesses facing difficult times get back on their feet faster and to liquidate non-viable businesses efficiently. Many of tomorrow’s insolvency problems will require resolution through cross-border communication and cooperation. Platforms such as FAIR are excellent opportunities for people-to-people exchanges to foster coordination at all levels and across jurisdictions, and we hope that the R&I community in the Asia Pacific will continue to build on this. From Ministry of Law, Singapore and co-organisers INSOL International and The World Bank , a big thank you to our speakers and attendees for your participation, and UNCITRAL: United Nations Commission on International Trade Law and International Monetary Fund for your unwavering support.
