There are many paths to #decarbonization, but in all cases, cooperation across sectors is crucial for success. 🎯 This was the main message at the recent Sembcorp Energy Insights forum where our Managing Director and CEO Akihiro Ondo took the stage with Abdan Satria from PT PLN (Persero), Irtiza Sayyed from ExxonMobil, Outi Ervasti from Neste, and Siddhartha Shrivastava from Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation – SMBC Group for a panel on advancing low-carbon solutions moderated by Weylen Lim from the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB). The session outlined the roles that various sectors play – from governments creating legislation to spur demand for low-carbon projects to technology providers undertaking R&D to enhance solutions in the market. We also discussed progress in the technology validation projects that we are doing with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries at Takasago Hydrogen Park and Nagasaki Carbon Neutral Park in Japan. Following this event, we look forward to more collective action and conversations that will drive the energy transition in Singapore and across the Asia Pacific region.
⚡Our inaugural Sembcorp Energy Insights forum brought together a distinguished group of industry and government leaders, sparking a vibrant exchange of ideas. 💬 Kicking off the event, Mr Keith Tan, Deputy Secretary (Industry and Energy & Carbon) at the Ministry of Trade and Industry highlighted the importance of a close collaboration between companies as well as a strong private-public partnership that is needed to drive the energy transition. 💡The audience actively engaged in a myriad of topics, from regional power connectivity to decarbonisation pathways and financing low-carbon solutions. These exchanges emphasised the complexities and opportunities of achieving a net-zero future through collective efforts among industries, government, financers, and technology providers. A heartfelt appreciation to all our partners who joined us and contributed their insights. We look forward to deepening our collaborations to drive the energy transition. Countries in Asia Pacific face a challenge when it comes to managing their energy systems: how can they simultaneously meet baseload electricity demand while advancing their #decarbonization goals? In an interview with NNA ASIA, Managing Director and CEO Akihiro Ondo discusses how natural gas enables countries to ensure lights are kept on while introducing cleaner fuels to the energy mix. He cites Singapore as an example of how to strike this balance. Today, natural gas is the predominant fuel powering the country, but efforts are underway to transition to hydrogen. Developments such as Mitsubishi Power’s ongoing projects with Keppel (Infrastructure Division), Meranti Power and Sembcorp Industries Ltd will help increase demand for hydrogen and accelerate the journey to #netzero. 🌱 Check out the story below.

We are pleased to collaborate with our parent company Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) in exploring the feasibility of #hydrogen co-firing in gas power generation facilities in #Thailand. As part of a new MoU signed between MHI and EGAT, we are kickstarting a project to raise the hydrogen co-firing ratio in one of EGAT’s power plants up to 20%.⚡ This is the continuation of Mitsubishi Power’s longstanding partnership with EGAT to transform Thailand’s energy systems, which includes the 2009 establishment of EGAT Diamond Service (EDS), a joint venture delivering gas turbine services to customers domestically and around the region. With all these efforts, we are supporting Thailand’s ambition to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and net zero emissions by 2065.
