During the summer break, I had the opportunity to intern at OBAYASHI SINGAPORE PRIVATE LIMITED, and I am thrilled to share my enriching learning experience. This opportunity exposed me to various facets of the construction industry, significantly broadening my knowledge and practical skills. During my time there, I had the privilege to work as a Mechanical and Electrical Engineer in the M&E team. One of the highlights of my stint was gaining hands-on experience in project management. I learned how to coordinate schedules and manage resources effectively while collaborating with different stakeholders. My daily responsibilities included conducting cost analysis to optimize project budgets, coordinating the identification and resolution of testing and commissioning (T&C) defects, and participating in frequent site walks to monitor progress and identify potential issues early on. Overall, my internship at Obayashi was a memorable and invaluable experience. It equipped me with practical skills, expanded my industry knowledge, and allowed me to build meaningful connections within the construction community. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to learn and contribute to such a reputable organization. Lastly, my deepest gratitude to Koh Puay Hwan, Liew Chiongkim, Callie and my intern buddy Teng Yi Edward Choo for their unwavering guidance and support. The 6th edition of the International Built Environment Week in Singapore has kicked off. Recently, a new S$120 million Central Office building designed for Singapore-based fibre network infrastructure provider, NetLink Trust (NLT) topped out on site.   Designed by Scott Brownrigg, the new facility has achieved Green Mark platinum certification. Together with NLT’s existing network of Central Offices, the new facility will serve the Northern region of the island and enhance resilience of Singapore’s nation-wide fibre network.   Vivien Leong, Director at Scott Brownrigg, said: ‘Building upon our experience of designing and delivering infrastructure in the region, we look forward to the completion of this important project which will serve future generations in Singapore.’   OBAYASHI SINGAPORE PRIVATE LIMITED is the appointed contractor and the building is expected to be operational at the end of this year.

The first two Plenaries of #IBEW had some really tough and straight-talking panels. In Plenary 1, Mr. Aik Seng Lee of OBAYASHI SINGAPORE PRIVATE LIMITED pointed out that adopting lean manufacturing is tough, given so many stakeholders and regulatory hurdles. But he is hopeful that CORENET X is going to change things. PEOPLE was the most used word in the panel, showing the emphasis that Lean Construction is not just about processes or digital tools, but PEOPLE and their mindset. This theme carried on into Plenary 2 on Collaborative Contracting. Robert Gerrard of NEC Contracts®, pointed out that EVERYONE is a winner when people in the projects can work together. Today marks a pivotal milestone in the Centre’s journey! We are thrilled to announce that the first construction site walk for the New Science Centre (NSC) has taken place this morning! The path once walked by Mr Teo Chee Hean, Senior Minister, Coordinating Minister for National Security, and Patron of the Science Centre Board and Mr Chan Chun Sing, Minister for Education, during our groundbreaking ceremony has now officially closed, symbolising the transformation from vision to reality. As we bid farewell to this familiar landscape, we eagerly anticipate the construction of NSC, which sets out to be a hub of immersive STEM experiences, designed to ignite curiosity in guests of all ages.
