If you like data as I do 📊, you'll find this short report eye-opening 👀. Bank transfer fraud, often overlooked, actually represents a much larger share of payment fraud compared to card fraud 💳. Preventing impersonation scams is a low-hanging fruit that all PSPs should prioritize, whether due to regulatory obligations or the essential duty of protecting their customers 🛡️. If PSPs fail to act, regulators will become increasingly prescriptive and shift liabilities onto PSPs to reimburse customers 💼. Oraan is a digital platform dedicated to empowering Pakistani women and their households by simplifying savings, investments, and budgeting. Through innovative products like Oraan Committees and personalized financial coaching, Oraan aims to provide a secure and user-friendly experience. Their goal is to make financial management accessible and inclusive, helping members save confidently and achieve their financial goals. The NBFC license will enable Oraan to expand their product offerings and work closely with the regulator to create the gold standard in NBFC consumer offerings in Pakistan. It will strengthen their ability to support students ad educational institutions, helping to bridge the affordability gap and empower more individuals to pursue higher education without the burden of unsustainable debt. Pakistan has more than 2.2 million students enrolled in universities, a number that should substantially grow given the overwhelmingly young population. However, with rising price levels, tertiary education is becoming more expensive than ever. It now consumes 80% of the top quartile household income in Pakistan. Unfortunately, the government's fiscal space doesn't allow it room to spend much on education while legacy financial institutions have better avenues for their funds. This poses a growing affordability problem, which can turn into a human capital crisis, if not addressed effectively. Amidst this, fintech players are trying to seize the day. A number of digital lenders, including Oraan, Taleem Finance Company Ltd, EduFi and KalPay, are reshaping access to higher education financing by creating localized credit products.
