Ramadan is a time of reflection and community, and we were glad to host Iftar (the breaking of fast) at our office — a cherished SAA tradition. As we continue through this season, we wish our Muslim colleagues and friends a meaningful Ramadan. #WeAreSAA #RamadanKareem

"When I was a teenager considering further studies, my mother called architecture a 'tomboy' profession, but I pursued it anyway — and it has shaped me into the person I am today,” said Susanna Swee, Executive Director at SAA Architects and the SJ Group. This was one of the many candid moments shared during today’s fireside chat in celebration of International Women’s Day. Alongside colleagues from across the architecture, engineering, and design community at the SJ Group, we tuned in to the voices of women leaders and professionals — stories of challenges faced, bold decisions made, and lessons learned. One of the common threads in the discussion was the importance of seeking support — both at home and in the workplace — and building a strong network to navigate challenges. Beyond the conversation, we were also treated to a host of engaging activities around SJ Campus — making it a meaningful and fun-filled celebration. Here’s to continuing the momentum for change. Happy International Women’s Day! Read more: https://lnkd.in/gppSbTs5 #WeAreSAA #InternationalWomensDay #AcceleratingAction #WomenInAEC

What lies ahead for architectural design in Southeast Asia? We explored this discourse with members of the World Association of Chinese Architect's (WACA), as part of the Southeast Asian Architectural Culture Exchange Conference. Hosted by the SJ Group on 20 and 21 February, the conference was an invaluable knowledge-sharing session with the architectural fraternity in Asia. The two-day programme included: - Talks and panel discussions on innovations and challenges in Southeast Asian architectural design - A networking session with Singapore Institute of Architects - Visits to NUS's SDE 4 building and URA's Singapore Gallery, and tours by WOHA Architects, Tierra Design and Atelier Ten. We gained deep insights into the history and context of our Southeast Asian culture, and a unique view of Singapore's heritage as expressed through its architecture. In particular, the visits and tours showcased how contextual and climatic responses have been interpreted and translated to the contemporary vernacular we see today. Grateful to have hosted our distinguished counterparts from East Asia. #SouthEastAsianArchitecture #WACA2025

What makes a space truly conducive to wellness? Our Senior Executive Director Michael Leong shared his insights on this at ULI Singapore's event that was hosted at the SJ Campus. He explained how the design of SJ Campus sought to enhance connectivity, community, and well-being. Drawing on salutogenic principles, Michael emphasised three key features of spaces designed for wellness: ➢ Comprehensibility - A well-designed space is intuitive, with clear wayfinding, natural cues, and landmarks that help people navigate effortlessly. The SJ Campus, for instance, features a central spine that guides movement between key nodes. ➢ Manageability - A space should support how we live and work. As a smart building, the SJ Campus leverages IoT to optimise usage, freeing people for higher-value, enriching tasks. ➢ Meaningfulness - Spaces develop meaning through heritage and identity. The neighbouring Jurong Eco Garden links our workplace to a pottery with the oldest and only dragon kiln in Singapore, weaving culture into the district's fabric. The vision of the Jurong Innovation District, in which SJ Campus is housed, integrates these principles at scale with zonal identities, diverse mobility options, district-level trails, and thoughtful connectivity — including the 11-km mobility deck and direct MRT access. Themed "Fostering Community through Thoughtful Design", the event, hosted by the SJ Group, included a panel discussion with Michael, Peet Mun Chew (CapitaLand Development), Jan Seow (JTC Corporation), and moderated by Rahul Mittal (Cistri). #UrbanDesign #SingaporeArchitecture #Placemaking #ULISingapore #SJCampus
