To support communities affected by the recent earthquake in #Myanmar and #Thailand, the Singapore Red Cross (SRC) has launched a public fundraising appeal. The fundraising appeal will run from today till 31 May 2025, with funds supporting relief and recovery operations in both countries. This is in addition to our initial contribution of SGD$150,000 announced yesterday. We also hosted a walk-in safe space at Red Cross House today, where volunteers offered mental health support to those whose loved ones were affected by the earthquake. In response to the powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck Central #Myanmar and #Thailand on Friday afternoon, the Singapore Red Cross (SRC) is committing an initial SGD$150,000 to support emergency relief efforts in both countries.  The contribution will go towards addressing immediate needs, including the distribution of essential supplies, such as food, water, blankets, tarpaulins, and hygiene kits, by the Myanmar Red Cross Society (MRCS) and Thai Red Cross Society (TRCS). Additionally, a public fundraising appeal will soon be launched to directly support relief and recovery operations for the affected communities. Singapore Red Cross Secretary General/CEO Mr Benjamin William said, “We are deeply concerned about the affected communities. Many people are injured, displaced and in urgent need of assistance. Widespread damage to infrastructure is hindering urgent rescue and relief operations on the ground. The scale of devastation calls for swift and coordinated humanitarian response. We are working closely with our Red Cross partners to ensure that help reaches those who need it most. In response to the escalating hostilities in #Gaza that erupted on 18 March 2025, the Singapore Red Cross (SRC) is intensifying its humanitarian support by committing an additional SGD400,000 towards emergency health services, primary healthcare, mental health support and relief efforts, as well as the operations of a 60-bed field hospital in Rafah, Gaza Strip. SRC will also deploy an operations coordinator to Cairo, Egypt, in the first instance for a two-week period, starting 13 April 2025, to facilitate relief operations on the ground. “Our commitment to support these vulnerable communities remains unwavering, and our latest contribution provides urgently needed support based on the situation on the ground. In this spirit of solidarity, we call upon the people of Singapore to extend their support to the affected communities in Gaza,” said Mr Benjamin William, Secretary-General/CEO of the Singapore Red Cross.
