  • ✨ What course am I interested in? It’s the big question on the minds of O- and N-level students! For some, the exploration starts as early as Secondary 2! This October 2024, the School of Humanities & Social Sciences (HSS) at Temasek Polytechnic welcomed close to 140 students (Secondary 2 and 3) from CHIJ Toa Payoh, Pei Hwa, and Junyuan Secondary Schools for an exciting Learning Journey. Students explored three unique diplomas: 🌅 Social Sciences in Gerontology (GEM/HSS) 🎨 Early Childhood Development & Education (ECDE/HSS) 🧠 Psychology Studies (PSY/HSS) Our HSS lecturers—Eugene Koh, Claire Chan, Emil Cheong, Sam Sim, BENJAMIN KOH BH, and Outreach & SkillsFuture (OSF) Sabrina Lim, Yuan Ching TEO, and Nazlene Zainal—brought learning to life with engaging games, hands-on demos, and interactive storytelling 🎉. We even tested the Stroop Effect! 💥 What color is this: Pink? Did you say pink when it’s blue? It’s a brain-bending test that the PSY lecturers shared to show how the mind works when presented with contrasting info. The day wasn’t complete without hearing from Caroline Chuwa, a PSY/HSS student who started her journey in our Polytechnic Foundation Programme (PFP). She gave students a sneak peek at TP’s best spots—and judging by their excitement after watching our Open House 2024 video, they’re already set to join us at Open House 2025 in January! 🎶 Looking forward to seeing all these bright minds at HSS/TP soon! 🧡 #temasekpolyhss #tphss #OneHSSFam #temasekpoly #tpcreatingtomorrow

World Mental Health Day 🌍  is a powerful reminder of the importance of mental well-being in every aspect of our lives—whether we’re juggling caregiving duties, guiding students, or managing a professional career. It’s not just about making it through the day, but thriving and finding the strength to support others while maintaining our own resilience. 💪   At TP, we understand the critical role of mental health in the care economy. Many of our adult learners come to us with years of experience, already making a difference in their communities. Yet, they recognise the importance of prioritising their own mental health to continue providing the best care for others. 🧠✨   Through our specially curated courses in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, we offer practical, hands-on strategies that empower professionals to better support those in their care. Learners not only enhance their knowledge but also gain deeper insights into nurturing their own mental and emotional well-being. 🌱   One of our learners shared how learning about mental health transformed his approach to supporting clients. Previously overwhelmed by the emotional weight of his job, he often carried that stress home. After attending our course, he gained a deeper understanding of emotional states, stress responses, and coping strategies. His personal well-being improved significantly, making him more empathetic and effective in his role. His journey reminds us that caring for others starts with caring for ourselves. 💚   According to the Singapore Mental Health Study, 1 in 7 people in Singapore have experienced a mental health condition during their lifetime. For many of our learners, this is more than a statistic—it’s a reality they face daily in their work. By enhancing their understanding of mental health, they’re better equipped to meet these challenges, enriching both their careers and the lives of those they care for. Continuous learning isn’t just about advancing in your career—it’s about expanding your capacity to care for others and yourself. 🌼   Don’t miss our upcoming Care Webinar Series in collaboration with South East CDC to learn more about how we support adult learners on this meaningful journey! Honoured to share that TP has been recognised as a contributing community partner by the Municipal Services Office (MSO) under Ministry of National Development! 🎉   Our journey with MSO has been nothing short of amazing, especially through meaningful projects like Project Code R.E.D. (Research, Engage, Deploy). This fantastic initiative brings together students from Institutes of Higher Learning to dive into municipal challenges, apply their skills, and make a real impact in the community. TP students across multiple disciplines have worked on municipal projects in the past few years as part of their coursework and have gained a deeper understanding and appreciation for community living.   A special shoutout to Dr. Tan Wah Pheow, TP's Head of Centre for Applied Behavioural Sciences, who highlighted how our students are using behavioural insights to promote positive norms and considerate behaviours in tackling municipal issues. 🧠💡 Dr. Tan has been a huge supporter of MSO and has worked with them on multiple initiatives. We are so glad he was honoured for his individual contributions as well.   We're excited about continuing our collaboration with MSO and making even more strides in enhancing our community and shared spaces. Here’s to many more impactful projects ahead! 🚀👏   #temasekpoly #tpcreatingtomorrow #TPartnerships

Joei Wong Wei Qi Diploma in Social Sciences in Gerontology, TPGEM 🧡    Temasek Polytechnic | School of Humanities & Social Sciences (TP HSS) has given me plenty of opportunities to venture out of my comfort zone 🧗. One such experience is being selected to take part in the Japan East-Asia Exchange for Students and Youths (JENESYS) 🇯🇵. My friends and I discovered more about Japanese culture ⛩ and social welfare 🫶🏽. It was an unforgettable and fruitful experience that is close to my heart 💟!     In the previous Academic Year (AY) 🗓, I was one of the 15 Project Coordinator Leaders. Being a leader, I sub-organised and carried out a local community project by conducting a beach 🏝 clean-up! I also joined the Gerontology Interest Group as an Event Subcommittee member and assisted in implementing bonding 🤝 activities to bring students together.     One of my leadership roles 💪🏽 include being the Assistant Welfare Secretary of the Humanities and Social Sciences Studies Club. We recently conducted HSS’s Project Coordinators (P.CO) Camp 2024! We are anticipating more exciting 🌟 upcoming events happening later in the AY!     I have met amazing 🤩 individuals and forged genuine friendships 🫂 – HSS is my home 🏠 away from home 🧡   One advice to my fellow TP peers is to always live life 💪🏽 with no regrets, seize the opportunities you get 🤝 and be brave enough to step out of your comfort zone 🧗. You never know what amazing things are waiting for you out there! 💯    #temasekpoly #tpcreatingtomorrow #tpacedit
