What does a healthcare accelerator like us have to do with sports startups? A lot more than you might think. Recently, we had the privilege of connecting Korean startups with Sport Singapore, and what we discovered was eye-opening. The potential for startups to innovate across both healthcare and sports is immense. Here are some key takeaways: ⚽ Bridging the gap between lifespan and healthspan: Singapore’s average lifespan is 84 years, but its healthspan is only 74, meaning a decade is often spent in poor health. Sport Singapore is working to change this through initiatives like Active Health Labs, HealthierSG, and AgeWell SG. Their mission isn’t just about treating illness but helping people live healthier, longer lives by improving how they move, eat, and rest. Thanks to Lek Seng Khoon and Eugene Tan for shedding light on these proactive healthcare strategies. ⚽ Innovating through digital sports: Sport Singapore’s digital strategy, led by Andrew Low, is forward-thinking. The Digital Living Lab serves as a testbed for startups to collaborate and develop cutting-edge tech solutions in sports innovation. We were also thrilled to collaborate with Peggy Tng from the Global Sports Innovation Center (GSIC powered by Microsoft) on a Startup Innovation Day. This event brought together their key partners from the fitness industry, including Singapore Fitness Alliance (SFA) and True Group—one of Asia’s largest fitness and wellness groups—giving startups invaluable networking opportunities to explore how their innovations can drive change in fitness and wellness. We see tremendous potential for healthtech startups to not only transform healthcare but also revolutionise the fitness industry. Let’s continue building bridges between healthcare, sports, and technology! What does it take for startups to thrive in a new market?
