About us

World Scientific Publishing Company was established in 1981 with only five employees in a tiny office. Today, the company employs more than 200 staff at its headquarters in Singapore, and has offices in New Jersey, London, Hong Kong, Taipei, Chennai, Beijing and Shanghai. In less than three decades, it has established itself as one of the leading scientific publishers in the world, and the largest international scientific publisher in the Asia-Pacific region. Annually, World Scientific publishes about 500 titles a year and 120 journals in various fields. Many of its books are recommended texts adopted by renowned institutions such as Harvard University, California Institute of Technology and Princeton University. Among the company's notable successes was its being awarded the exclusive rights in 1991 by the Nobel Foundation in Stockholm to publish (in English) the entire series of Nobel lectures from 1971 to 1990 and to distribute them worldwide. Subsequently, World Scientific again obtained the rights to publish the complete series of Nobel lectures delivered from 1901 to 2000. In 1995, World Scientific co-founded the London-based Imperial College Press with London University's Imperial College. The Press publishes mainly in the fields in which Imperial College itself is particularly well-known, such as Engineering, Medicine, Information Technology, Environmental Technology, and Management Sciences. Imperial College Press has published about 400 books and 8 journals to date.

  • The second set of 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙀𝙣𝙘𝙮𝙘𝙡𝙤𝙥𝙚𝙙𝙞𝙖 𝙤𝙛 𝘾𝙤𝙨𝙢𝙤𝙡𝙤𝙜𝙮, in three volumes, continues this major, long-lasting, seminal reference at the graduate student level laid out by the most prominent researchers in the general field of cosmology. Together, these volumes will be a comprehensive review of the most important current topics in cosmology, discussing the important concepts and current status in each field, covering both theory and observation. These three volumes are edited by Dr Giovanni Fazio from the Center for Astrophysics | Harvard & Smithsonian, with each volume authored or edited by specialists in the area: 𝐌𝐨𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐞𝐝 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐲 by Claudia de Rham and Andrew Tolley (Imperial College London), 𝐍𝐞𝐮𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐨 𝐏𝐡𝐲𝐬𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐀𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐡𝐲𝐬𝐢𝐜𝐬 edited by Floyd Stecker (NASA Goddard Space Flight Center), 𝐁𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐇𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐬 edited by Zoltan Haiman (Columbia University). These volumes follow the earlier publication in 2020 of 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙀𝙣𝙘𝙮𝙘𝙡𝙤𝙥𝙚𝙙𝙞𝙖 𝙤𝙛 𝘾𝙤𝙨𝙢𝙤𝙡𝙤𝙜𝙮, which comprises the following four volumes: 𝐆𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐱𝐲 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐄𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 by Rennan Barkana (Tel Aviv University), 𝐍𝐮𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐢𝐦𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐬𝐦𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 edited by Kentaro Nagamine (Osaka University / University of Nevada, Reno), 𝐃𝐚𝐫𝐤 𝐄𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 by Shinji Tsujikawa (Tokyo University of Science), and 𝐃𝐚𝐫𝐤 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 by Jihn E Kim (Seoul National University). The Encyclopedia aims to provide an overview of the most important topics in cosmology and serve as an up-to-date reference in astrophysics. Quote WH24 for 25% OFF! • 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐖𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐠 (1933–2021) was a theoretical physicist and Nobel laureate who contributed tremendously to particle physics. Until his death, Weinberg was regarded by many as the greatest living scientist. His most well-known work was the formulation of electroweak theory for which he earned the 1979 Nobel Prize with Sheldon Glashow and Abdus Salam, but his research spanned many other fields. Examples include effective Lagrangians, quantum chromodynamics, supersymmetry, quantum gravity, and cosmology. Weinberg's publications were renowned not only for their profundity and originality but also for their devastating logic and clarity. This volume edited by Michael James Duff (Imperial College London, UK) brings together 37 of his most significant papers, together with commentaries, providing today's physicists with easy access to these seminal papers. More than just a collection, this selection by editor Michael Duff places each article into a comprehensive overview, providing the reader with the scientific and historical context of Weinberg's finest papers. This article features in the latest edition of 𝐆𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞, 𝐍𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐥. This paper explores the benefits of incorporating second-order analytical derivatives into the gradient-based optimization algorithms used for impulsive spacecraft trajectory optimization. Reg-12 demonstrated faster convergence and achieved lower total Δv (velocity change) values across different numbers of nodes, indicating an advantage of using second-order analytical derivatives. 3. 𝐎𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐬: The study found that with a primitively selected initial guess, Reg-12 was able to optimize the trajectory to achieve a total Δv of 392.9 m/s, whereas Reg-1 resulted in a higher total Δv of 457.6 m/s. 4. 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐎𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: The new solutions obtained in this study resulted in relatively short transfer times and resided near the Pareto front found in previous literature. The study identified nontrivial roles of mid-course impulses in the optimal solutions, with variations in flight times and the number of impulses required, demonstrating the robustness and efficiency of the second-order analytical derivative method.
