Regional Dialogue would like to commend the hard work and dedication of the students representing Uzbekistan at the 4th Financial Security Olympiad recently completed in Sochi, Russia. The Uzbek Team, composed of students from the Law Enforcement Academy of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Tashkent State University of Economics, Tashkent State University of Law, Tashkent University of Information Technologies, and Inha University in Tashkent, competed against approximately 500 students representing 36 countries from throughout the world. Following the completion of a variety of tests and tasks, the Uzbek Team finished in third place out of the 36 countries in the competition. Several members of the team were the top students in their specific categories while others were highlighted for special recognition by the Olympiad organizers. The students representing Uzbekistan spent numerous hours preparing for this competition and it is inspiring to see the successful results of their efforts. These students represented Uzbekistan and their universities in an outstanding manner and Regional Dialogue wishes to congratulate them on their amazing performance. We are confident that these students will continue to reach new heights in the forthcoming years and represent Uzbekistan in a positive light internationally.

RD CT Team has successfully completed the preparation program for students from the Law Enforcement Academy of Uzbekistan and four other Uzbek universities, selected based on their specialties, for the International Olympiad on Financial Security. Throughout 2024, CT Consultant Richard Joyce guided them through various topics, including money laundering, the impact of cryptocurrency on financial crimes, financial investigations, international conventions, and FATF recommendations. In addition to theoretical insights, students were provided with practical materials and test formats to simulate the real Olympiad, ensuring they were well-prepared for the competition. #regionaldialogue #CT #internationalolympiad

Regional Dialogue spoke about its efforts geared towards the better protection of the rights of persons with disabilities at the conference convened by “SHAROIT PLUS” in cooperation with TSUL and UNDP Uzbekistan and titled “Issues and Solutions in the Field of Increasing Legal Literacy of Persons with Disabilities and Providing Them with Free Legal Assistance”, on 28 September 2024 in Tashkent. The organization published and distributed 5,000 copies of the legislation collection on disability in hard copies and digital format, and conducted disability and human-centered training workshops for 160 students and professors of law clinics across the country. Regional Dialogue will continue integrating disability into its programming, as “we firmly believe that it is through building an inclusive society where people have equal rights and opportunities, that societies will thrive,” said Petra Gorjup.  #DRL #disability #TSUL #lawclinic

𝗪𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘂𝗽! Regional Dialogue is conducting a final two-day workshop on search warrants, pre-trial release and detention on September 19-20 for judges from the Khorezm region and Republic of Karakalpakstan. The session also delved into the standard of reasonable expectation of privacy, a key factor for investigators when handling cases involving new technologies. Judge Keršmanc emphasized, “𝘐𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘴𝘦𝘴 𝘪𝘯𝘷𝘰𝘭𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘯𝘦𝘸 𝘪𝘯𝘷𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘨𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘥𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘦𝘤𝘩𝘯𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘨𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘤𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘵𝘰 𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘷𝘢𝘭𝘶𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘱𝘢𝘴𝘵 𝘤𝘢𝘴𝘦 𝘭𝘢𝘸𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘥𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘧𝘶𝘳𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘥𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘰𝘱 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮.” Special thanks to Jonathan Hawley and Ciril Keršmanc for expertly guiding participants through these critical topics. We also extend our gratitude to Regional Dialogue experts Gregory Weddle and Matic Zupan for skillfully moderating the event on site. We wish Uzbek legal practitioners all the best as they prepare to introduce the role of investigative judges in January 2025, and hope that these discussions have provided valuable insights to support the transition. #regionaldialogue #SupremeJudicialCouncil #PreTrialProcess #INL

Petra Gorjup, Regional Dialogue’s Head of Branch Office in Uzbekistan, attended a Ministry of Justice round table discussion focusing on enhancing the efficiency of processing appeals. By providing manuals on legal procedures and the commentary on the law "On Appeals from Individuals and Legal Entities," essential guidance was presented to ensure integrity and accountability in public service. These resources will help raise public awareness of their rights when dealing with appeals concerning government agencies, affiliated entities, and governmental officials. #regionaldialogue #MoJ #DRL
