India vs Australia highlights, T20 World Cup 2024: IND qualifies for semifinals, beats AUS by 24 runs

Hardik to bowl the last over. Double on the first ball towards long on. Cummins pulls towards deep midwicket, Jadeja dives but can’t grab the ball. Just a single. Off-cutter and Starc is beaten. Another cutter and another dot ball. Three balls, all same with same result. Single on the last ball. India wins quite comfortably in the end.

Bumrah. He’s bowling the cutter brilliantly. Another cutter but Cummins times his pull well and gets a SIX. Bumrah follows it up with a yorker. 10 runs from the over. 

Arshdeep. OUT! Wade is caught at short third. Umpires check for a clean catch as Kuldeep had to dive to take the catch. But replays suggest it was a clean and Wade has to go. 

Pat Cummins is here. Lofts the ball straight but the ball lands safely. Single. David slaps the ball straight and gets a boundary. Full toss, David launches the ball straight, long off is interested but the ball clears the boundary. OUT! David gets thick edge straight to short third. 

Bumrah is here. Off-cutter, bouncer to Head and he pulls for a single. David too pushes the ball towards long on for a single. OUT! Off-cutter, Head goes for a slog but top edges it and it caught inside the circle. Massive wicket.

Mathew Wade is here. Takes a single on his first ball. David isn’t able to time the ball well. Double to end the over. 

Arshdeep is back. Full toss, Head misses, and Pant too isn’t able to time is dive to right and it goes for four. Smart bowling by Arshdeep, mixing his pace well. Yorker but Head takes a single. Seven from the over. 

Axar. Stoinis reverses and is caught at backward point! A wicket on the first ball of the over. Stoinis depart for just two. 

Tim David is the new man in. Axar bowls too wide and Head pushes the ball towards cover for four. Six runs from the over. 

Kuldeep for his last over. OUT! Maxwell comes down the track, misses the slog and the ball crashes into the stumps. Big wicket for India.

Stoinis is the new man in. Defends his first ball. Head continues with his attacking approach. Pulls the short ball towards midwicket for four. Good over though. Seven off it. 

Axar for his second. A dot to begin with. He sweeps on the second and gets a single. Head looks to cut, gets a single. Another sweep by Maxwell but again a single. A dot to end the over. Just three runs off it. 

Kuldeep for his third. Maxwell sweeps and gets a single. Easy singles on offer for Australia right now. Maxwell reverses again but can only get a single. Slider by Kuldeep, Head reads it late. SIX! Tossed up and Head goes over long off to end the over with a maximum. 

Ravindra Jadeja into the attack. Maxwell cuts him for four! Follows it up with a SIX! Reverse hit over the short third. Poor start for Jadeja. Two balls later, Maxwell reverses again! This time it’s a boundary. 17 runs from the over. 

Hardik continues for his third over. FOUR! Width given and Head slashes this to the point boundary. Slashed away hard again but Rohit with a good diving effort at cover to keep it down to a dot-ball. FOUR! Head opens the face of the bat to carve this behind point for another boundary. Hardik’s bowling plundered for 43 runs in three overs. 

Kuldeep will continue. Marsh misses the sweep and Pant whips off the bails from behind. Third umpire will have a look at this stumping appeal but Marsh stretches his back leg enough to have his foot inside the crease. OUT! And a stunning catch by Axar Patel at deep square-leg to send Marsh back.

Here comes Kuldeep Yadav. Just four runs from the over as Head and Marsh don’t take too many risks against the left-arm unorthodox spinner. 

Here comes Hardik Pandya. Starts off with a wide. SIX! In the slot and carted over wide long-on by Head. That’s the 50-run partnership off 28 balls between Head and Marsh. SIX! Length ball on leg-stump and Head launches this over deep midwicket for a second maximum in this over. 

Axar Patel into the attack. SIX! Length on middle stump and picked up by Marsh over the square-leg boundary for half a dozen runs. FOUR! 

FOUR! Bumrah continues and Head slashes this uppishly over point for a boundary. FOUR! Pulled away by Head to the square-leg boundary for consecutive fours. FOUR! Three boudaries in four balls for Head. Full toss and driven past point to the boundary by the left-hander. A couple of singles to end the over and 14 come off it. 

Arshdeep will continue. Angling away from Marsh outside off, pace off and Marsh swings and misses. FOUR! Marsh picks up the length early, and pulls this shortish delivery to the wide long-on boundary. DROPPED! Arshdeep spills this return catch and Marsh gets a lifeline on 5. This was coming at high pace and it bursts through Arshdeep’s fingers over his head. FOUR! Punched through cover-point by Marsh for a second boundary in the over. SIX! After bowling length, Arshdeep goes short again and pulled disdainfully by Marsh over deep square-leg for a maximum. 

Jasprit Bumrah from the other end. Top edge on the pull for Mitchell Marsh and falls in front of Rishabh Pant. 

Travis Head and David Warner will begin the run-chase. Arshdeep Singh with the new ball. OUT! Thick outside edge and Suryakumar holds on to it in the slips. Arshdeep sets the record for the most wickets by an Indian in a T20 World Cup campaign with that scalp. 

Pat Cummins to bowl the last over. Jadeja starts the over with a single. Pandya swings hard but misses to find the connection in the second delivery. Pandya only manages a single off the third delivery. SIX! Finally, a boundary as Jadeja flicks the ball hard and it sails over deep mid-wicket. Only two off the last two deliveries as India manages 205/5 in 20 overs -- its third-highest total in T20 World Cup and highest against Australia in T20 World Cup.

Marcus Stoinis with his last over. Stoinis to Hardik, SIX! This is Pandya’s power! Short and Pandya was back in the crease and lofts it over extra cover. SIX! Another! Brilliant shot by Hardik who digs out the full ball. Hardik gets a single. OUT! Gone, Dube departs after scoring a 21-ball 28. 14 off this over. 

Pat Cummins from the other end. Dube has the strike. Cummins tries for a yorker, ends up bowling a full toss, and Dube takes a double. Three singles follow. FOUR! Short and slapped away by Hardik for a boundary over cover. 10 from this over. 

Adam Zampa with his fourth over. Zampa to Hardik, DROPPED! Skipper Mitchell Marsh drops a dolly at point. Just five runs from this over. 

Josh Hazlewood will end his quota in this over. He ends his brilliant spell with just a four-run over and finishes with a figure of 4-0-14-1. 

Mitchell Starc with his last over. FOUR! SKY starts the over with a boundary. He cuts the full ball at backward point. OUT! India loses another. SKY looks to get another boundary, but an edge was carried to the keeper. The new batter, Hardik Pandya gets off the mark with a single. 7 runs and a wicket from this over.

Mitchell Starc returns to the strike. Starc to Rohit, OUT! Yorker length, Rohit tries to dig out but is played down. A brilliant innings comes to an end. Rohit departs on 92. Shivam Dube is in no. five and he gets off the mark with a FOUR! Starc ends the over with three dots as 4 runs and a wicket come from this over.

Marcus Stonis continues. Stoinis to Rohit, FOUR! Short and pulled away by Rohit past the fielder at short fine. FOUR! Another boundary, another shot ball and pulled away nicely by Rohit. It is all Rohit! 12 off this over as India manages 114 in 10 overs.

Marcus Stoinis is in the attack. A dot delivery to start the over. Stoinis to Rohit, FOUR! Walks down the track and lofts it over deep mid-wicket for a boundary. SIX! Rohit is in some touch today! Banged in short and Rohit slaps it over deep backwards square. SIX! This has to be the best one until now! Shimmies down the track again and lofts it over cover with such a grace that even Australians are looking gobsmacked. Stoinis to Pant, OUT! Pant holes out to Hazlewood as India loses its second wicket.

Josh Hazlewood continues with his third over. Rohit takes a single but it’s off the pads for a leg bye single. Pant is struggling to get his rhythm. A couple of singles will keep him on strike again. Rohit Sharma registered the third-fastest half-century by an Indian in T20 World Cup history during a Super Eight match against Australia in St. Lucia on Monday.

Australia needs a win after a historic defeat to Afghanistan in Saint Vincent. India is in a better position after defeating Bangladesh in Antigua, but its qualification isn’t guaranteed yet. If both Australia and Afghanistan win, three teams will tie with four points, and the net run rate will decide the standings.

However, a win against Australia will secure India’s place in the next round. Australia can go through even if it loses to India. For that to happen, it would need Bangladesh to beat Afghanistan, which would create a three-way tie on two points. With the Aussies currently holding a better net run rate (0.223), they would just have to avoid a big defeat.
