WARNO
If you are new pick up Warno too! Kinda feel bad I spent so long (2.5 years) pondering whether to get this game based on peoples thoughts on the difficulty.
The way people discuss the difficulty of these Eugen Systems games makes me think of FromSoftware titles in the form of RTT/RTS games, but after playing for the first time today I feel bad I had been put off so long by those statements (had been umming and ahhing about getting it since the original early access launch 2.5 years ago).

Picked up the game today after having never played any of the Eugen Systems games (been playing other RTS series for most of my life tho) and I'm at a 100% win record 1v1 vs AI on all difficulties up to and including Very Hard, not got around to Hardest yet, but I expect it will be somewhat challenging.

I just wanted to say that for any newer players to the series to not be put off by the perception people give of the game being a cliff face of difficulty.

Just go play all the tutorials (army general ones optional if you just wanna skirmish or MP) and even just goof around with the built in decks for a bit, I played all the tutorials, 1 operation, and a bunch of skirmish games since I bought it earlier today. I haven't watched any videos of what is meta or correct strategies at all, and the decks and strategies I use probably kinda suck but it's not as hard as some people might think to get into these sorta games. I'm so glad I nabbed it on the steam sale, great game! :dungeons_heart:

Yup, the tutorials are much more complete in this, and there are many U tube visions for more complex ideas or deck building.

I would recommend new players the following:

tutorials -> a couple of operations -> a few skirmish: death row, easy Ai

watch youtube deck builds - copy one -> use deck on a few more skirmishes vs medium Ai.

then either do more operations or go into 10v10 online to get a feel playing vs other players

i would HIGHLY recommend not ignoring multiplayer - some of the best of WARNO can be had there.

It's not really hard like some FromSoftware games can be - Eugen games just a little unusual and it can be hard to adjust to them at first.

play multiplayer online then come back and tell me how easy it is.

I'm a new player having trouble against medium AI when I don't pause the game. I can win fairly easily pausing the game, but I can't win at normal speed. Stuff just happens so quickly and I have little time to decide what reinforcements to call up and where they should go. And by the time I call up forces, it's too late... Any advice?

I am going to say this right now, been gaming for over 20 years and I have learned to never go off of the opinions of others on whether or not to get a game.

I would have missed out on some of my favorite games if I listened to what other people were saying about it.

If you want to buy and play a game, do it because it's what you want and not what other people are saying about it.

Won my first 10v10 I played about the same time I reached level 5 (getting the much rarer achievement first), and I played at least a decent part in holding two lines with tank support, aa and command infantry stalling. I'm not trying to tell folks the game is stupidly easy, or that they should expect the multiplayer to be a cakewalk, just that it is more inviting than some people make it out to be. The game does get super hardcore. It's just nowhere near as inaccessible as some folks make it out to be. I played another 10v10 loss when half the team resigned before the five minute mark, I wasn't one of the folks who resigned.

Do you play other RTS games? I think a big part of RTS is multitasking and thinking of multiple things at once. Like say in Warno for example thinking about your current deployed units, their current positioning vs ideally where you want them.

And what they are weak against, what should be your next unlock to try to mitigate this weakness as much as possible, you should be thinking of this before you actually go to call in the units, keeping track of the timer so you know when to do so. EG if you have a big tank push be sure to bring anti air along, if the AI starts using artillery move out of the zones of fire and put some of your own artillery far back on counter battery stance and you don't even need to micro them.

Even just learning basic hotkeys like the hunt and unload ones can help a ton, as it really hurts to lose an infantry squad just sitting in a transport or ifv that you forgot to unload.

Also are you playing 1v1s vs the AI or in team games?
I find the AI feels actually way tougher in a 4 AI vs player+3 AI setting than it does in a 1v1 setting but I am much more used to playing duels in RTS than any other sort of mode,

Also Edit: I should add that some knowledge of what is in your deck and their relative icons so you know what you are selecting can be incredibly helpful. Being able to identify a command version of a vehicle at first glance, which types of infantry are more suited to CQB, which bring the strongest anti tank weapons, which tank is your stronger and more costly option vs whether you are better off spending less on multiple lighter ones. All of this really helps speed your gameplay up in practice.

And to follow this up again just played my 3rd 10v10, no players disconnected this time, team won a total victory and while my KDA wasn't the best I was top score in the game regarding conquest/victory points. No idea why you want to try to flame a post encouraging new people to try a game when as a player you benefit from having more folks play and join the community.
