The girl is a maiden so you can't be a male maiden and the warrior dude is a male samurai and female samurai were almost non existent, so what the ♥♥♥♥ do you expect?

Also, it's not sad, it's a good news actually: i will stop buying "modern games", which won't even be a big problem since the 90% of them are just brainwashing propaganda and A LOT of money saved on my end too! Furthermore, old games will always be available so i will be fine :)

Well in real life there was never such a thing as a female samurai because they were not allowed to join the military. This is just a game though.

You can pretend "they" identify themselves as whatever. Problem solved.

Does anyone know the gender of the playable character?
I checked some interviews in Japanese, but couldn't find any.
If I had to guess, I'd say that the equipment is based on Amaterasu. Amaterasu is a goddess. Of course it wouldn't be surprising if a man was equipped with that.

The priestess would be a woman.
And it's true that the villagers are gender-biased, too.

The main character is wearing a mask at all times.
You can just pretend He/she has a purple undercut and nose piercing and you are set.
You can even make up your own pronouns if you are so inclined.

It's not 100% obvious what the gender of the player character is. I feel like it's male, but it's also ambiguous.
