It released out of early access and it's a solo game. The devs could certainly have done better, but they did put the game out, and you don't need anyone else to play it, so "dead game" is just a weird complaint to throw.

still no updates or any game progression map. i dont know who decided to release it out of early access tbh, they should have let more people try the game and actually listen to feedbacks

EA wasn't as successful as expected.
They were at the end of the EA roadmap and there were no budget to continue EA.
They released it.
Release wasn't more successful.
There is no budget to continue development.
(And it is said by devs here and there there won't be any more development.)

Do people seriously not understand that video games get released and at a certain point are considered finished and done? Like, how is that so hard for you to understand?
Seriously, go make a game yourself and never ever stop working on it.... ever. Show us all how its done. Oh wait you won't do that? Because it makes zero sense? Because its not fincancially viable?

Its almost like there's tons of reasons games become released and the dev moves on. Imagine that, actually applying thinking to the situation.

i personally did not know what happened on the background. and i am sorry for what happened. however it is still wrong to me to release a game unfinished and stop working on it. why did we pay for it then? its just toxic positivism what most of you are doing. i will keep this post so potential buyers will understand that game wont be getting any new updates then. you may whine all you like. its just wasted money. this game is not finished or done. its released in a rush for money and its wrong. so many games like this in the market. corruption.

Yeah same feel.

I've been following the game for years, here and on discord, it's the first time seeing someone saying the son of a dev died. :/
And this being the reason to not continue working on Unliving doesn't really fit the messages from the devs here and there saying they don't have more budget to work on the game but they could return to it if it starts to sell and they get more budget.

I apologize for the long time silence from our side. As developers, we have completed all possible work on the game. Now both we (devs) and you (players) can only wait for decisions and answers from the publisher of the game - Team17.

As Tyrian Mollusk correctly pointed out, this is a finished single-player game that already has a lot of content. Future support will be decided by the publisher.

The lack of news is not due to any troubles of the team, we are all alive and well :)

Thank you for your attention to our game! We hope we'll be able bring you more updates in the future.

Except this game is not finished and done. For one, your zombies' AI and pathfinding are still horrendous, often making it unplayable at worst or extremely frustrating at best. The game is essentially still broken and will never be fixed, apparently. Like, how is that so hard for you to understand?

Just because it has serious problems doesn't mean it's "unfinished". There are lots of finished games with serious problems.

I do agree with the sentiment that they let down their early access customers and the cool game they were building, so don't get me wrong, but I think it's important not to conflate devs who delivered poorly with devs who did not deliver their game. Tesla Force, Neon Echo, Gone Viral, Blacksea Odyssey, ... Now, those are games where devs abandoned their projects unfinished, and they should be maligned and held to account for cheating their customers, but things like The Unliving, Ardein.Fall, Bloody Rally Show, I See Red, and so on are "merely" finished games with failings the devs could and should have polished away. Complain about the work and support they delivered, leave poor reviews about issues you have to put up with, etc, but this feels like a whole game, and at least they managed that, even if some of the failings feel inexplicable, like the way they couldn't be bothered to fix obvious, reported controller problems or make minions reliably teleport to you if they are too far away and not making progress toward your destinations.

If someone chooses to buy The Unliving, they are going to notice issues and have complaints, but they get the game devs advertise and said they were making. We can be angry and disappointed without being unreasonable.

I'm like 18 hours in at this point and have beaten the final boss on "Vow of Deicide" level 3 and got as far as the final boss on difficulty level 4 before sloppy playing did me in. And it definitely was sloppy playing on my part, nothing I could blame the AI for.

In that entire time I have had the game break in a run ending way all of once when I couldn't seem to attack the buildings during the first boss. Some kind of hiccup, given that it has worked flawlessly before and since.

While I'll admit that the zombies can be a bit dim, especially about pathing, I have found the game to be fairly enjoyable, if a bit easy once you figure out some cornerstones such as how bosses 2-4 work.

I've like 20 spells left to unlock plus like 1 or 2 of the higher tier ones near the soul anchors up top.

I unlocked almost all content and achievements. Played around 80 hours now so far. Some people still whining about the lack of AI and so on. I'm seriously thinking there is a misunderstanding of how the horde works. They're just stupid undeads. Telling them what to do and where to go IS your job. Thinking they will roam all the map killing everything on their own is complete nonsense.
Give them correct orders, the job will be done right.

I experienced some bugs here and there but nothing that wouldn't help you enjoy the game .
to be honest i love this game i keep seeing things about the AI but one a least for me it seemed fine and two on a lore perspective these things are dead they have now brain i think that if they do do more to this game it will get much better but right now i still think its great. i also hope we get to see more shout to the devs.
