Keyword for this expansion is: "Lategame".

Don't Starve, as fun and cool as it is, always lacked proper endgame. After the first year its essentially just base building. Vanilla kept you playing for some more via caves and ruins, which if you even try to go to before late mid-game or late game, you would be rekt in about a minute.

Reign of Giants adds extra mechanics and challanges(food left on drying racks and crock pots will spoil, wetness being a thing, summer not being the safe season anymore, winter becoming harsher, etc.) designed for the people who can survive to late game(or the people like myself who decided "Yeah I can handle this", which I eventually did).

There's a lot of content such as a few new creatures, new biomes, etc. but the main things that are late game specific are:

Giants - After the first year, seasonal bosses will spawn. They will pose a threat, have a warning before they actually spawn, and will really change what you expect from the game so far(for example, a strategy that works on one boss may not work on the others). Each one's drops however, can be used in craftables that will either aid you in general or in the next season or in the next encounter with the giant. Thanks to the amounts needed, you will need to kill them a few times to get all of their rewards.

Tumbleweeds - Renewing resources that couldnt be renewed before.

Seasons - Adding more seasons made the years less repetitive. No longer summer and winter only, but the whole 4 seasons, each with its own adventage you can use and its disadventage that will attempt to torture you horribly.

Lastly, there are the characters.

Wigfrid and Webber both spice up the gameplay quite a bit, even more than some vanilla characters. Saying more would probably spoil though.

All in all:

Pros:
-Very good for late game.
-Great for people who just want more variety in general

Cons:
-Doesn't add that much content. The content that it does add though synergizes so well with the game.

TLDR: Great for people who can reach late game, cool for people who can't/just want more variety, and all in all works very well with the base game.
