Alongside the aforementioned, I believe FFXIV is a really great way to see what Final Fantasy as a series is, as FFXIV really prides itself on those that came before and relishes what it earns through being a Final Fantasy title. The game starts slow, but give it your patience and experience how you want to and I promise it will give back equal value and more. (also the free trial gives you access to content all the way up to the 2nd expansion for the game, really good deal for that price.)
