Best shooter out there. There is no competitor.

Edit:

leaving old review up for posterity.

A bit about me, I have participated in play testing and development for some games in the past, and Hunt: Showdown is my favourite shooter of all time, check my time in game, over 3000 hours at this point so I know a bit of what I'm talking about when it comes to this game, further more I will attach an imgur link so you can see that I am a six star so I am very experienced.

The major update that just happened for Hunt: Showdown was something much awaited by the fanbase for years. They have been talking about an engine update since at least 2020 and with the engine update they have introduced a new map, new mechaincs in bullet drop, and a much anticipated menu rework.

I do not know who they hired, but it was clearly a netflix addicted mobile game developer because the ui change, removed ALL functionality that you used to have.
Wanna check your team mates loadout?
You used to be able to do that, you can't anymore.
Wanna switch between us west or us east servers with relative ease?
You can't. you need to go through 2 menus and restart the game.
You used to be able click 2 buttons to equip a custom loadout that you personally put together, you can not do that anymore, it requires no less than 3 menus, and it does not take you back to the lobby when you're done to click 'ready'.

The old menu was a little rough, I will give you that, it was the worst part of hunt, but it wasn't unbearable.
After you won or lost a match you'd have impactful sound effects as xp was attributed the slamming of a blacksmiths hammer on an anvil, the slamming of a bolt closing, the strike of boot on bone.

All of that is gone for mobile beeps and boops.
the xp screen is also just much worse in general.

Every effort was made, very clearly, to ruin hunts aesthetic, and I really do not know why, until now Hunt was stone faced in its design philosophy, slapping you across the face with hard and fast tones and visual effects that left reverberations through you indicating the finality of decisions you make like the striking of a judges gavil as you navigated forward to a new hunter, or loadout, and it's all gone.

Whoever designed this UI should never be allowed a video game again.
Whoever approved this UI should never work on video games again.

and that is just the UI downgrade.

they also promised us performance improvements, as well as the potential to increase graphics quality if you desired and had a computer capable.
That was nonsense ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up by the utterly deranged sculptor himself.
if you have a medium or low end system, it's an all round downgrade for you. I went from averaging 80-90 fps, down to 50 with lower settings.
motion blurs your vision, not because of motion blur effect, but because fps generation can't keep up, and textures refuse to load in.
If you have throwing axes, you will switch to them, and see an empty hand for anywhere between 2 to 5 seconds.
A hunter will be in front of you and only his arms and torso will have loaded, looking like a floating near invisible character, and guns also fail to load, with pieces missing indefinitely making it look like a character is only holding a receiver.

I love Hunt, I have Loved Hunt for five years now.
It's very clear that Crytek has stopped loving hunt, and has decided to destroy the gem of a game they had.

I'm genuinely lost for words as to why someone would do something like this.
Don't buy this game, not until the ui is reverted at the very least. not until performance is ACTUALLY improved, and not until the texture issues are fixed.

Further update I just discovered
Trials are missing, just completely gone, and so are the monstorum and armoury books which gave you lore and stories relating to the different monsters hunters and guns.
they've just straight up lifted out paid content.
