Early Access Review
I keep seeing comments saying "Duhhhh no story!!! there's no game here!! they just talk about their engine!!111!!1"

It's not like it was described as a prelude to what they really want to build(sarcasm), and having watched this game for so long, it's genuinely insane the jump from what they had at the start to now. Sure it could be seen as almost development hell, but I still remember the update for the physics engine where walking on beams and movement in general was upgraded and if you played before and after you could FEEL the difference, so I know all the tweaks and changes they're making is doing SOMETHING.

When the Force update came out, players found out quickly you could just bypass entire sections by levitating an item to pull down a lever, skipping sections of the map. like I can't get over the breath of options given to you through just 2 out of SIX(6) thaum/magic trees. Want a gaggle of zombies henchman to throw at your enemies? You can!!! Possess, gaslight, and astral project your way through the dungeon! Don't care for that and rather just go head first? Force can do that, Empower your attacks or add magic armor to yourself, enemies getting too handsy? Force blast them away!

If they really didn't care about the players then they'd have never added Arena or any lore ♥♥♥♥ to the game. Like I can't stress enough that this game is supremely overtuned, how many other games are like this right now? NONE or at least none this well made. Like yeah i'm itching as much as anyone else for the full open world, but as of right now I enjoy going back to this every once inawhile and just going through the game cause it's truly a unique experience, and if it starts to feel to easy, there's always Hellmode mod, and their amazing team that really change and ramp up the difficulty.

I've ranted incoherently enough just know that you're going to buy a game with a high skill ceiling. I remember getting it and getting my ass beat because the controls for this game is just that different. But I learned eventually and I'm happy I did.

As far as a tech demo, I think it's a good showing of what/where they wanna go with the mod, and so far what they're showing makes me interested.

Video/FPS issues aside, gameplay wise it's rough, I'm pitting it as it being Unity Engine 5 quarks, The first thing is the - ---- - head bobbing, please if you want to make it part of your game for whatever reason, either make it a toggle or just lessen it. Getting hit makes me feel like one a bobble head.
- Enemies have that Unity sliding movement
- Weapons don't have that "oomph" to them (and the double shot makes your head bobble hard too).
- General Unity feel(if that even counts?)

The few goods things I did like was
- The zombie hanging, still attacking, make it have more fluid actions like it's trying to reach out, swing out like it's lunging maybe? If you're gonna show that might as well have more of those "Enviromental Hazard" zombies
- The Headcrabs having a more fluid/dynamic fall over animation, like VR. I like the noises too kinda alien cute. They obviously get stuck here and there but I'd imagine that'd get ironed out.
- Enviroment feels nice

I'd give it a positive review in hope that these issues get fixed with just continuous development and refinement of the game.

Jesus ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ christ, attacking? Nothing but snipers lining the hills with unerring aim, impossible to push. Defending? Assault units with laser beam guns, can't defend against a hail of bullets. That's the 2 meta play styles I picked up from 1 hour. Going from BF1 to this (not just the whole oh new tech new style of fighting) is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. BF1 has that feel of WW1 anyone can die no matter the weapons, any gun is usable, so why in bf5 am I fighting cod player movement

I wish I could scrub my brain of the memories playing this, just to play it all over again. Top 10 Games, up there with the eldritch horror genre like Night in the Woods. Hope for some sequel or something similar. I'll miss shrimp.

Yeah not sure what the other negative reviewers are on about with the slower movement, Feels about the same maybe the animation is making it feel weird, but for the most part still snappy fast paced CQC fights. Maybe it's going between A & B they're feeling that slow down? Either way, fun game, crazy destruction especially on the casino map with little to no lag at all

I mean, it's in early access so besides some bugs/crashing etc. It's def a diamond in the rough, Vehicle/Bug control is very fun and terrain (for bugs at least) are nothing to worry about getting caught up on. Bug especially feel fun, allowing you to crawl pretty much on anything so yeah the smallest bug will take a long time to take down a huge harvester, but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ if it isn't funny seeing the enemy try to get an angle on you to pick you off. Let this game cook, if the Dev keeps picking away and letting this thing COOK by god will it be a fun game.

Some things I MYSELF would like to see, some early game way of helping build up the base of your commander (there might be a way and I just didn't realize) Just overall polishing maybe some tweaking of lights (FORGOT TO SAY IT"S ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ BEAUTIFUL, the difference between morning and night time fights it's awesome. Visually appealing game.)
Movement upgrades/structures for bugs
More bug types
Smaller Bugs
Bigger Bugs
I've never had more fun playing as an Alien Bug since Starcraft 2 please let this game cook my god

Tutorial is so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ long, I spent a good 5-6 minutes on a few starting area quest (which locks you out of everything else) just trying to find the STONE AND STICKS just for beginner crafting. Fighting and rubber banding so unless you're in china gl

Gorgeous graphics and overall just look of the game is top notch, that though is where all it's merit go to. The auto battle is clunky and sometimes frustrating, with how about 3/4ths of your horde lays stock still with just the front being active, it just feels weird, like have them feel like they're clambering over themselves to take a swing at the enemy or something. Some of the spells are great and others feel down right useless, such as the roaming skulls spells, I'll suck in a bunch of essence and all it does it fart out 1-2 skulls that do single target damage, which my zombies can do with an aoe attack. Another thing is the way you can control your horde, it feels stiff since you're suppose to cast it and forget it, but because it targets a zombie randomly if not selecting one, maybe you don't get the best deal out of that sacrifice spell.

What i'm getting at is that it's obv. in EA, and that while graphic wise it's complete and enjoyable to watch, the game mechanics need polishing and possible rework done to allow the player feel a smooth seamless connection with their horde. Cause right now it feels like i'm trying to baby sit a bunch of morons.

ALTHOUGH I will say for about 17ish dollars, it's fairly priced if the full vision of the game comes to fruition.
