"powder game" "dust game" "falling sand" there are a few games out their with the same premise, pixels with characteristics interacting. you could pour seeds on sand and they would take root and then add water and the seeds will sprout. then you can drop a single pixel of lava on your newly grown forest and watch the whole thing burn down. these games were classics of the flash generation of browser games.

now imagine if someone took those same mechanics and built a platforming roguelike around them...

that is noita. this game has quickly become one of my favorites for these reasons. heck, i haven't even come close to beating the game yet it still keeps pulling me back in. no two runs ever feel the same and you are forced to think on your feet. beyond all that, this game really takes the iceberg principle to the extreme. on the surface, it is just a quirky action platformer. dig a little deeper though and you will uncover several entire separate games worth of content. the main goal of the game is to get to the center of the world and defeat the single boss, but that is less than 5% of the actual world. there are secrets on top of secrets to this game and many of them are along the same lines as those rumors you heard on the playgrounds as a kid.

this game isn't for everyone, but i think everyone should at least give it a shot.
