A fun and challenging little colony simulator with a Dwarf Fortress feeling to it. You play the omnipresent mind controlling the lives of a bunch of colonists with their own personalities and traits with the main objective of survival and eventually potentially escape from this savage planet.

You can build all sorts of useful structures and work shops to facilitate that, and can also build housing for your colonists to maintain morale. Colonists can form relationships, which idealy can lead to cohabitation, saving space and giving a large buff to both of their moods. They can't actually made new colonists though. To get more of those you need to rescue other survivors, or capture and pursuade hostile raider and/or random passers by to join your colony. As you expand things will become more difficult due to higher enemy raid numbers and the potential for more dangerous enemies, though there are a range of difficulty levels, and you can create custom starting scenarios that give you a huge starting advantage which will make it easier to set up for later.

There's also a minor diplomacy system where you can make peace with certain factions so that they will send trade caravans instead of raiding parties, or even if they like you enough offer you special trade events or even troops to assist you during enemy raids.

TLDR: Basically the game's feature list is quite accurate, and the features are all executed in the high quality if low fidelity you could expect from the best indie games. It's a very open strategy game that isn't quite as open but also not nearly as janky and confusing as the infamous Dwarf Fortress. Good gateway game to it though. Highly recommended.
