this game launched, i adjusted the graphic settings and some setting made everything like grainy and filtered, so i tried adjusting the graphics again and the game just turned into colored square with nothing visible. relaunched the game and it is still colored squares with nothing visible. never played anything that's so fundamentally broken before, they legitimately need to take this down from steam.

This game is SO close to being incredible, but the simplicity of the combat and the ease of most levels betrays it. There's far, far too many levels where you can basically just camp in one spot and lazily do the same attack over and over when a guy walks by. The game is very afraid of throwing too many of the enemy types at you at once, and it results in a very action anemic experience where you spend more time waiting than anything.

The downtime in this game is legitimately insane, I can't believe it got past the design phase. First off, you have preparations. So, ok, you have to run around a small level purifying sections of the map to gather villagers and upgrades. This isn't TOO bad, the animations get tiring and you don't have a sprint but if this was all I wouldn't mind. But for some godawful reason, they decided once you beat a level you have to go back into the map and run around it again so you can command the villagers to repair buildings. Some of these buildings give vital upgrades, and you get a unique piece of gear when all upgrades are done. So you set the villagers to do maybe a third of the building tasks, because there's a limited number of them.

And then you go off and do a mission. And then you have to go back and run back to the spots again to claim the rewards. And then you have to run around to the other repair points, because you can't reassign villagers until you claim your reward. And then you have to do it again, and ALSO there will be some random planks of wood scattered around that you have to command the villagers to grab for some of the repairs. And then you do it one more time, and then you have to run into a tent on the map to claim the final prize. The end result is you're running around each map a half dozen times doing essentially nothing, because yes you have to do this for EVERY LEVEL.

There's also brief boss arenas where you fight one big foe and don't have to do any of that. But they also have a time trial element, where you assign all your units before the fight and then go in. If you screw up the time trial? You're assigning 6+ guys individually again, because there's no option to restart from the fight. In one of these you have 12 guys and the time trial is extremely tight. All of this adds up WAY too much.

Last note, you can't rebind a lot of buttons properly. The command button has to be on a bumper or trigger, even though it's not a button that needs to get pressed urgently basically ever. Because of this, the default control scheme has dodge on click left-stick and it's a big pain in the ass to find a configuration where you're not giving up something. If command could be set to up on the d-pad, problem would be solved. But that has to be taken up by the photo mode button that almost no one ever uses.

Edit: I made it halfway into new game+ now and yeah, this game just never gets even remotely difficult. There's a small period of time in the last few levels where the game gets hectic enough to be fun (but still not challenging) and then new game+ just gets easier again despite you now having even more upgrades. The only semi-hard thing is doing some of the don't get hit / don't let Yoshiro get hit challenges but they're not actually difficult, they just encourage you to play super safe and lame. Maybe I'd recommend this game if they add some endgame DLC or crazy master levels or something, but as for now the monotony is not worth the few moments of fun it provides.

Under a bunch of negative reviews of this game, the developer says stuff like "if you play this game 10 hours or more, it will start to open up and you will enjoy it". Well why didn't you start the game at the point it's enjoyable, then? People have better things to do than take it on faith that a game might become enjoyable eventually. If it's bad at the start, it's bad.

this is honestly a fun game but the big problem is it has these really long stage transitions every 5-ish screens that just completely prevents you from getting into a good flow state, and when you beat a level you have to do this really dumb photo-op mini-game that's some real SNES Barbie ♥♥♥♥ and takes forever. sorta amusing the first time but ultimately a huge waste of time. you can just run off screen to end it sooner but then you won't get any coins to buy upgrades. the party bus rewards screen also takes forever. it all adds up to frustration. also the mammoth boss sucks, absolute bozo idea for a stage boss.

if you want a smash-esque roguelite, go play Spiritfall instead, that game is incredible
