Thanks to the developers for creating this experience. It really brought me back to the 90's childhood rpg experience in the modern era. I bought it for full price and had no regrets. You can see and feel the love put into the game to create the full experience. Even though I had to do 4.5 hours of ng+ for the last achievement and the plat, I had a lot of fun.

Nice short little metroidvania. I got all the achivements in the time you see above. The combat is smooth, with a good parry mechanic. The map is also pretty small compared to other bigger metroidvania like hollow knight or bloodstained for example so its actually hard to get lost.

Difficulty is hard to rate imo. I feel its not super hard and enemy patterns are fairly simple. Although you can die in 2-4 hits a lot of the times, you also have alot of heals you can use. Bosses aren't super hard either for this reason but you get nice bonuses extra bonuses for clearing bosses with no damage if you wanted the extra challenge. There is a new game plus if you wanted to chase these so thats always nice.

Don't be fooled by my hours shown here. I also have 400+ hours on the playstation version. Nioh 2 is more than souls-like in that its way more aggressive and fast. It's also a relatively great lootfest. Combat and customization options only expand each game cycle and there is always more to learn by playing other weapons or using different armor sets. Since I played the game since playstation launch, they've also improved the tutorials and the on-screen information by a lot which is always a plus for a game like this that has a steep learning curve.
One of the cons I would point out is that some of the game sounds seem weird as if its very abrupt and just goes away not timing well with what is on screen. There is also the alt+ tab thing I ran into where it would leave me holding my ranged weapon. Easily fixed by pressing alt again which is the default keyboard button for that. Otherwise, its a great game and the price is a great grab considering I payed way more on playstation when dlc was being developed.

Let me be clear. The game is fantastic. The platforming is tight, the combat is fun, and number of party members mean you can decide how to play the game. I also enjoyed the story as well.
I'm going to be talking about the negatives here which might sound like it might outnumber the positives but its up to you to decide its worth.
The end of support of the game means no more updates or more content. All of the backer content will never be released. There is also the issue of the scandal and what you think of it. If you only care about the quality of the game and not about the scandal you can buy it. If you want to vote with your wallet and not support the developer don't buy it unless its dirt cheap.
Otherwise, there are plenty of other issues making the game harder than it should be. There are a lack of tutorials which lead to very otherwise annoying boss fights which might make you quit. The game also tells you nothing on what certain things mean such as your party members hearts or how your level matters. I found the answers to the problem in the steam discussion. The "training mode" where you can practice whatever you want in combat is unlocked a bit too late. There are balancing issues regarding monster strength to your current level. Some will one shot you even if you block normally requiring you to instant block perfectly just to finish encounters.
In the end the experience is worth it if you push through the problems and I'm amazed how they made such an immersive world. Even the main menu when you boot up the game is just where you last saved.

When they advertise that it is FFT-inspired, it is 100% true. The combat and class system are just as fun as FFT letting you mix many kinds of movesets and skills. I had a great time throughout the whole game wondering what kind of combination to try out next. I found that most of my ideas worked extremely well although that being said, I have had a lot of experience with FFT.

A quick note about the story. I streamed about half of the game for my friend who more or less guessed out the entire story. Take that as you will.

If you use a controller for fighting games, I extremely recommend you don't buy this game atleast at this time. The game requires you to play with a claw to utilize all the macros for ex moves and the controls can't be changed for controller and stick. Otherwise, the release was obviously rushed since the cpu has no hitbox in like 1/3 of the trial missions. If you can deal with these, the game has simple mechanics and seems to have enough depth on paper to be a fun fighter.

Edit: A person told me how to change controls for controller. At the top of the button settings press right on the keyboard bindings letting you do pretty everything except jump with the d-pad for some reason. Its actually possible to play the game now.
