Of all the rogue-lites I have played, Dead Cells is my entry of the genre, and will always be my favorite.

From early access to full release, the game had received various changes to become the popular one right now. I had witnessed so many changes, from Elemental Update to Who`s Your Daily Update, from The Forge Update to today`s Dead Cell V1.1, the developer had poured their hearts to this game, and they sure were adventurous ones. Rebuilding the system by compeletly rendering the old one to dust was something revolutionary. I was talking about the whole upgrade system and the mutations back at the days. At the moment I was a bit upset with my progress being overhauled to something unfamiliar, but it turned out wonderful for a game force you to adpat to different playstyle in a single playthrough instead of clinging to one weapon, one playstyle. I guess this is the very reason why I`ve play the game for 1000 hours up and still keep going.

The combat, the major point of the game, is dynamic and satisfying. Various weapons and powerful skills are out there for you to unlock. Even if you feel like the drop rate is too low, just grab the hunter`s grenade and go for it. Once you obtain everything, a new perspective has opened. The combination of the items above is nothing short of novelty. You can be a silent assassin backstabbing everthing and warping around "Now you see me, now you don`t"style; you can be a archer skilled in range attacks with powerful auto-turrets by your side; you can be a tank with a shield parrying and tanking through everything while dealing heavy blows. Or you know, just grab two assault shields and speedruns through levels. Us players are the creative ones.

Pixelated quality doesn`t mean the game is bad in it's natural state. Quite contrary, Dead Cells pulls this off pretty damn good. Well-designed background, balanced generation of levels, even several easter eggs still amaze me till today. The enemies are fine-animated, distinctive and fun to interact with you.(It's a glitch. Sometimes I still see Dark Tracker keeps on rolling rolling rolling...) They can be easily disposed if you have grabbed enough things to power up before. Otherwise be prepared for some tough battles.

Dead Cells may be a wonderful game, but that doesn't mean it possesses zero cons. In my opinion, the game sufferes what other rogue-lite fellows also do––the frsustrating replay. Just think a one hour of hard-working puff into thin air because of a lethal mistake, and sends you back to the begining. Despair can easily overtake your mind. I have to admit, the replayability of Dead Cells is often short when you think about it. One or two run a day is sufficient. Too short you will pray for more; too long the excitement would wear off real quick.

A must play for rogue-lite genre. A great experience too good to pass on.
