Pallas Mk2 [RE2]

Description
CV, Core1, Unlock Level 15, Complexity 1

Starter CV / Miner, Upgradable. For Reforged Eden 2.

Works only in Reforged Eden 2. This CV uses parts only available in RE2-based scenarios.

The venerable Pallas returns for Reforged Eden 2! This starter CV and miner has been rebuilt from the core up taking into account lessons learned from the original model and the new mechanics of RE2. She still fills the same role as a warp-capable, shielded, upgradable starter CV that will get you out in the galaxy mining asteroids at only level 15, while providing you all the support you need for visiting early POIs, hauling around your starter HVs and SVs, and progressing you through the early game tech tree advancements.

Improvements over the original Pallas include:

Easier drilling
Even with the LCD guides on the original Pallas the drills were difficult to position correctly. For the Mk2 version the cockpit has been extended out to the tip of the drills so that you have less of a chance of pushing the drills into the asteroid where they won't mine. It doesn't look as "realistic", but it's significantly easier to use: just smash the ship into an asteroid face and the drills should work great. You won't scratch the windshield, I promise.

A Proper Hangar
The hull was widened at the rear and lengthened to make room for a 3-block-wide hangar bay in the back. This fits most starter HVs and many early-to-midgame SV miners, so it's great for keeping their cockpits cool while flying around environmentally-unfriendly planets looking for planetary deposits. You also have more docking space on top of the ship for parking larger SVs or mounting additional turrets.

Better Defenses
With the addition of a 7th sentry gun by the front ramp the Mk2 now offers full 360 degree ground troop protection while landed. The thrusters are now better spaced so that they provide chain protection even when upgraded (tested with medium and large ion thrusters), and the hangar bay separation means that a chain reaction on one side won't take out the entire ship at once. But your best defense is the pre-installed alarm sentries. They are configured to detect incoming patrol vessels at 3km, so if you hear one go off something big is coming and you should leave. Remember, you're in a miner, not a combat ship. Don't mess with the big boys.

(Note: You have a lot of anti-drone weapons installed so you can -- and should! -- still engage those. There are some relentless drones in RE2 that will punish you if you run, so it's still best to charge into them since they can't shoot while turning to follow you.)

Power-Neutral Parking
The Mk2 comes stock with two standard plasma turbines installed, which provide enough power savings in "Park Mode" to let the ship park with its shield, sentry turrets, alarm turrets, and the top two Gatling turrets active without using a drop of fuel. This lets you park outside of your base or a POI without worrying about drones or ground troops damaging your ship, and will alert you if any patrol vessels are flying nearby so you have time to make your escape. All while never having to worry about your food spoiling if you have to quickly log off for the night.

Dual Oxygen Zones
If something does start to poke holes in your ship the Mk2's cockpit is now a separate sealed O2 zone so you won't be exposed to the elements.

Otherwise, the Pallas Mk2 is the same ship fitting the same role as the original Pallas did in RE1. There is again a laid-out upgrade path you may choose to follow, but RE2 offers a bit more flexibility so feel free to play around with the free space and outfit the ship the way you want it (I included some screenshots that show my personal Core4 version upgraded as a miner/salvager).

Note: The front boarding ramp is only automatic on entry. Press F on it to open it as you leave the ship, and it will auto-close behind you. Internal doors operate in manual mode so they stay quiet as you walk around the interior. All doors and medical devices are public by default; all storage is private.

Nice starter! I made space in the shield room for a couple small plasma gens, and can run the small constructor & shield without fuel.

This is a great 1st CV for getting about, lots of storage and has almost everything you'd find in a bigger ship. I love it, thanks for sharing.

I found I needed to push the Industrial Drill Modules forward 1 block to get them to make more regular contact with the 'roids.

Great Mining starter or support for running the undefended ground POI's.
I put in a enhanced WiFi asap and found that I absolutely needed to get to laser drills as a priority, which required an improved CPU upgrade ... and extreme caution with power when running 8 laser drills. Totally worth it though.
Love the layout of the small Mining CV.
