Persistent Corpses

Description
Updated for 5.7!

You need any DLC pack to use this - if you only own basegame, use this mod instead.

A simple tweak to stop bodies from despawning after death. I've also modified the decay animation to take 10 minutes per frame instead of 6 seconds, so it'll be easier to see the flavour decomposition.

HOW TO TURN THIS ON:
When creating a lobby, select the "Persistent Corpses" Data set. This is the same dropdown menu where you choose to use the Conquerors or Expansions DLC. This works for singleplayer and multiplayer.

HOW TO INSTALL FOR CAMPAIGNS:
Unfortunately there's no way for me to modify which dataset the campaign uses, but there's a workaround in which you replace your default empires2_x2_p1.dat with this modified one to get the same effect. Here's how:

1. Make a copy of the resources folder inside your Age2HD install location as backup

2. You'll need to navigate to the folder where steam workshop mods for this game are downloaded -Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\221380\842804516

3. Grab the resources folder where you navigated to and copypaste it into the Age2 install location. Say yes to all overwrites. Now the persistent corpses will affect expansion campaigns - AoK and AoC campaigns will be unchanged.

4. If you want to play multiplayer again, replace the resources folder again with the backup you made.

If you want to have corpses for the vanilla basegame campaigns, you'll need to subscribe to my other mod which has the data file you need
The workshop location for the original modified dataset is here - Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\221380\850340707
Do the same thing as you did above, and all of your campaigns will have non-disappearing corpses.
______________

I recommend Enhanced Blood and Enhanced Sinking by Silent Ape to go with this mod, they're pretty great!
Also, special thanks to gagman for his help, as this submission literally wouldn't exist without him!

for the people that after saving and loading a new saved game the mod STOPS WORKING i have found a way to make it work after saving the game.
What i did is I save the game, but then if i want to play it again and keep the mod working what i do is i START A NEW GAME with the persistent corpses mode ON and then LOAD the REAL SAVED GAME that you want to play. this way the mod will be working in the game you saved earlier.
I have no ideia why this works this way, but it does (at least for me) so give it a try. if i wasnt clear enough please let me know i'll try to explain better.

dont forget :
start new game with persistent bodies mode on ( can be anything as long as the mod persistent corpses is on)
load the game that you actually want to play while inside the game you just started.
enjoy the game

How do I use multiple data mods
Varg Vikernes 15 Dec, 2020 @ 9:20am
Not sure i select the data mod when i start a new game and it works perfectly fine but when i save and load into that save the bodies start decaying normally again. Does the Data mod turn off when you reload a game or something?

@schizo I have no idea what could cause that issue, sorry. Seems like it could be a bug with AoE2 itself?

When i load up the save it seems like this mod stops working. Any fix?

@Rudhek
I already have a version for DE. The Microsoft mod backend is bugged and doesn't allow me to upload the DE version properly without breaking it. I've already complained on the forums and I'm waiting for a fix.

If you're willing to backup and replace your vanilla DE files with modified versions, here's a link to the mod: https://files.catbox.moe/lc1s99.zip . Exact same "installation" instructions as this one, as the folder structure is the same between HD and DE. Be aware that you won't be able to play multiplayer if you do this.

Will there be a version of this on DE?

@Captain If you're hosting a match with the data set, other players will download and see it as well.

@Tazer Yes, in graphics tab in Genie Editor you're able to play around with frame time and duration per frame.
