You can collaborate with others on Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Vids to:
- Add, edit, reply, filter, or delete comments
- Assign tasks and action items
- Add emoji reactions
Important: On your iPhone or iPad, when you use a web browser to access Google Vids:
- You can watch processed videos.
- You can’t edit or add comments to videos.
Comment options
- On your iPhone or iPad, open a file in the Google Docs app.
- Select the text or cell and tap Add Comment.
- Add your text.
- Tap Done .
After you tap a cell or text with a comment, then tap View comment, you can:
- Edit a comment: Tap More Edit. Make your changes, then tap Done .
- Reply to a comment: At the bottom of the comment, tap Reply.
- Resolve a comment: At the bottom of a comment, tap Resolve.
- Move between comments: Swipe left or right.
- Delete comment: Tap More Delete.
- Return to editing view: Swipe down on the comment area in the document, spreadsheet, or presentation.
To make your comment visible to someone, you can add them to the comment. They will receive an email notification with your comment.
Tip: If someone has set their status to “Out of office” and you have permission to view their calendar, you will get a notification in the comment as you add them.
- On your iPhone or iPad, open a file in the Google Docs, Sheets, or Slides app.
- Insert and type a comment.
- Anywhere in your comment, enter "@" and their name or email address. When the correct person is suggested, click their name.
- Tap Done .
Note: The owner of a document will get notifications for all comments by default.
If someone suggests an edit to a document you own, you can accept or reject it. This is only available in Google Docs.
- On your iPhone or iPad, open a file in the Google Docs app.
- To see the suggestion, tap Hidden Suggestion.
- Tap Accept or Reject.
Tip: If you don't like a suggestion you accepted, tap Undo.
Use & follow up on action items
Use comments to assign tasks or action items with your work or school account.
- On your iPhone or iPad, open a file in the Google Docs, Sheets, or Slides app.
- Highlight the text, images, cells, or slides you want to comment on.
- To add a comment, tap Insert .
- Tap Comment.
- Type your comment.
- Somewhere in your comment, add the email address, with @ or + in front of it, of the person you want to assign it to.
- Tap the box next to "Assign to [name]."
- Tap Done . The person you assigned the action item to will get an email.

- Tap the text with a comment.

- Tap Done . The person you assigned the action item to will get an email.
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Docs, Sheets, or Slides app.
- In the top right corner of a document, tap the number. If you don’t see a number, you don’t have any follow ups for that document.

- Action items
- Suggestions
- To go to the first action item or suggestion, tap an option from the list.
- To close the menu, tap the number.
Use emoji reactions in Google Docs
If you have comment or edit access to a Google Doc, you can add emoji reactions to content you highlight.
Add emoji reactions- On your iPhone or iPad, open a file on the Google Docs app.
- Select the text you want to react to.
- Tap More Add emoji reaction.
- Choose which emoji you want to add.
Tip: On an iPhone or iPad, emoji reactions appear with other comments. You can also add multiple emoji to the same text.
- On your iPhone or iPad, open a file in the Google Docs app.
- Tap the text with an emoji reaction.
- Tap View comment.
- Tap Mark done .
