The 23rd MAFO optics Conference brought together more than 90 ophthalmic lens experts and 15 speakers from all over the world. With the conference being held just a day before MIDO, it offers an unique opportunity to exchange ideas and learn about the latest trends in the ophthalmic lens industry.   Dr Hua Qi, Technical Research & Development Department (TRD) from HOYA Vision Care, Japan presented a novel spectacle lens array that shows promising efficacy for myopia management in children, comparing favorably to pharmacological treatments.   His presentation highlights the optical performance challenges of different spectacle lens designs, particularly the variability of Point Spread Function (PSF) and Modulation Transfer Function (MTF) values across different positions on spectacle lenses with honeycomb design and with multi-ring design, leading to unexpected flickers.   The presentation also introduces new indices, Local Light Intensity (LLI) and Local Target Shift (LTS), and uses mappings of mean MTF and  deference of MTF to comprehensively evaluate the spectacle lens's optical performance.   Would you like to know more about these? Myopia’s prevalence is rising at an alarming rate, with the WHO predicting that 40% of the global population will live with this condition by 2030. Meet Meiryo, our future Guide Dog, that made his friendly debut at OPTI 2025.   Part of the Guide Dog Project undertaken by HOYA Lens Switzerland, the primary aim is to contribute significantly to the lives of people who have little or no sight by sponsoring and training a Guide Dog. The CSR project of the Swiss team seeks to bring clarity and independence to the lives of the blind or visually impaired, symbolized by our Guide Dog's name, "Meiryo," meaning "clarity" in Japanese.   For one year, the HOYA team will sponsor and take responsibility for Meiryo's basic training. The aim is to prepare him as best as possible for his future role as a Guide Dog, supported by the Guide Dog School Liestal | Verein für Blindenhunde und Mobilitätshilfen (VBM).
