Udupi has 163 students securing marks between 600 and maximum of 720.
Belagavi (151), Mysuru (136) and Hubballi (111) are the other places with a substantial number of students in this range. The analysis is done by Raghavendra Hegde, founder of RH MedTech Mentor, which provides counselling for NEET andCET.
In Bengaluru, Seshadripuram First Grade College centre, Yelahanka, has 102 students in this marks range. Fifty-three students who appeared in Royal International Public School, Nelamangala, and 47 candidates in Krupanidhi College of Pharmacy on Sarjapur Road also have more than 600 marks. As many as 134 students across the state secured more than 700 marks.
Of them, 74 are from Bengaluru Urban centres. Seventeen are from Mangaluru and eight each from Davanagere and Belagavi. Mysuru and Bidar have six each and Hubballi has four. “The data does not show where the students originally hail from, but these are the centres where they wrote the exam in.
The results were expected—the district-wise distribution shows no anomaly,” observed Raghavendra. “Bengaluru Urban has a high number of students in this range, as expected, because of the large number of centres. Mangaluru is an education hub. Students from other states and districts go to Mangaluru for coaching. Similarly, the student population in regions like Bidar and Kalaburagi is high,” he said. “The number of students in the 600-720 bracket is extremely large this year. It could have been around 1,700-1,800 last time.

With this, the cut-off is also expected to be around 50-70 marks higher this time. While last year, at the end of the second round of counselling, students with 530-532 marks would have got seats in the 85% state quota, (this time) it would be as high as 580 marks, and even 600 marks in the worst-case scenario. Competition is going to be very high,” he observed.
Ali Khwaja, career counsellor and founder, Banjara Academy, said: “Bengaluru’s performance was expected considering the size of the city. Mangaluru has traditionally been accepted as an education hub – the Kota of Karnataka. Bidar is coming up as an education hub.
There are many coaching centres that are emerging, especially for NEET, rather than engineering. Being a conservative city, medicine or teaching are the two widely accepted professions for girls. Davanagere is also presumed as a hub for coaching.
Coaching definitely gives an advantage for a student, as it teaches them how to crack a competitive exam—how to manage time, where to guess, where not to guess and so on.”
