Why Microsoft outage didn’t affect Indian Railways

CHENNAI: Microsoft global outage on Friday did not affect the services of Indian railways, said a senior railway official.
Ticket issuing for suburban and express trains journeys were not affected at the railway booking counters. All these services functioned normally thanks to a CRIS passenger reservation system developed in 1999 during the Y2K problem.This is still used.
This system was periodically updated by incorporating the required modifications to the software. Due to this, the services in the railways were not affected, the official explained.
